I've had a really good experience with Donner equipment, and their DED-100 electronic drum kit has been one of my favorites. I enjoyed that kit so much that when I saw this smaller beginner set, I decided to get it for my son. I figured if he's going to start learning, I might as well start him on something from a brand I've already had consistently good experiences with. This is definitely designed as a beginner/junior kit, and I think Donner did a good job of giving a new player everything they actually need without making the setup overwhelming. You get four 6-inch silicone drum pads, three larger 9-inch cymbals, two pedals, the throne, sticks, and headphones. There are 150 sounds and 15 customizable kits, so there's plenty to experiment with as someone learns. The silicone pads are one of the biggest advantages of going electronic, especially when the person learning is your own kid. He can practice without everyone else in the house being forced to participate in the lesson. With headphones connected, I'm mostly hearing the tapping of the sticks instead of a full drum performance coming through the walls. I also really like that the frame is adjustable and collapsible. It's intended for younger players, so being able to change the height as they grow is important. It also doesn't require dedicating half a room to a drum set permanently. The USB MIDI capability gives it some room to grow beyond just playing the built-in sounds, and I really appreciate the learning side of the package. Donner includes access to 40 Melodics lessons, along with support for the Donner Play app. For a beginner, having structured lessons and feedback available makes this much more than something a kid bangs on for two weeks before losing interest. One thing to understand is that there isn't a powered speaker included. The headphones are perfect for quiet practice, but if you want everyone else to hear the performance, you'll need a compatible powered amp or speaker. It can even run from a USB power bank, which is a surprisingly useful feature if you want to set it up somewhere without convenient access to an outlet. Overall: After enjoying my Donner DED-100 as much as I have, getting this beginner kit for my son was an easy decision. It's smaller and simpler than my kit, as it should be, but it still feels like an actual electronic drum set rather than a toy pretending to be one. It has plenty of sounds, quiet silicone pads, MIDI capability, learning resources, and practically everything he needs to get started. Now I just have to see whether he learns to play before I finally figure out how to hit all the pads on mine. ... show more

I ordered this Donner electronic drum kit for my 7-year-old niece, and it has been an absolute hit. She comes from a musically inclined home, her dad plays guitar and she has already picked up the ukulele, and she recently started taking formal drum lessons. This set is the perfect solution for her to practice at home between her weekly lessons. Here are a few highlights that make this kit stand out: Complete Starter Package: It truly comes with everything needed right out of the box. Having the drum throne, headphones, drumsticks, and foot pedals included meant there was no scrambling to buy separate accessories before she could play. Quiet Home Practice: The quiet silicone pads and included headphones are a lifesaver. She can drill patterns and work through her lesson assignments repeatedly at any hour without driving everyone else in the house crazy. Great Size for Young Kids: Acoustic drum sets can be overwhelming and awkward for a 7-year-old to reach, but this frame is compact and easily adjustable. We were able to position the pads and cymbals so she can maintain proper posture and strike comfortably. This arrived very well packaged in a bunch of separate boxes inside of one larger box. Very well thought out. The drum kit is all inclusive. It comes with headphones and a rudimentary drum seat. For a beginning child, I replaced the included drumsticks with a pair of shorter ones. The set is well designed and easy to assemble. It all attaches ton one frame and is easily adjustable, and can easily be tightened up with the included tool. There are no rim shots possible, so the similarity to a real drum kit is not 100 percent. But the number of different backing tracks/rhythms is good. And the ability to learn/practice completely silently is wonderful. I also like the simply foot pedals for the high hat and kick drum. Much better than a faux kick that hits you in the shin, like my other set. My grandchildren hooked up their drum amplifier to the set and started immediately looping drum parts. They love this thing . So, ovearll a fun and well thought out beginner drum set. And for around 170 dollars it is an excellent value for money. ... show more

My son lost his mind when this showed up. Setup took maybe twenty minutes and the mesh pads keep the noise down so the whole house isn’t shaking. The sounds are decent for a kids set and he can switch between a few different kits without any trouble. Feels solid enough that it should hold up to daily banging.
