The 21L soft-sided cooler is pretty impressive. I have several coolers, but none like this one - and this is the first cooler I have tried from this brand. The first things I noticed about this cooler were the quality of construction, the height of the cooler and the dual-hinge, snap on lid. The grippy, textured, top handle is also neat as it is magnetic. There is also an included carry strap, with shoulder pad, that is removable. The "lichen" color is a really pretty forest green. The interior and exterior are made from a durable rubber material that makes for easy cleaning. The profile of the cooler means it can fit in my packed SUV easier than the typical cooler, and there is a substantial amount of space inside. When I pack it carefully, I can fit a lot of stuff inside. This medium (volume) size is a really nice intermediate between a small and large cooler, and with the taller profile you can fit larger bottles, like wine or sauces that wouldn't fit in a standard cooler. The dual-hinge lid may be the neatest part of the cooler, and the feature that really shines for me. Being able to remove the lid is appreciated as you are better able to see the contents of the cooler, can load and unload with ease, and clean the cooler easier, etc. The snap mechanism feels like top-quality. This cooler keeps contents cold for a long time, comparable to other top-quality coolers. Unloaded, the cooler is just over 6 pounds and does get pretty heavy when loaded, but that's normal with just about every cooler (especially one with good insulation properties). There is nothing shim-sham about this cooler and I would expect that at a premium price. It looks sleek and gets the job done, with a cool, taller profile that takes up a smaller footprint on-the-go. I would recommend this cooler, and think it is a good value if you have some extra cash to drop on clever design elements, a smaller footprint, and robust construction that will last for years to come.

Returned this cooler. This cooler was far too small to meet my needs. Hard to judge by the dimensions until you get it in your hands. Also the color wasn’t to our liking once we saw it in person. Amazon clearly knew this was. A less desirable shade as the grey we bought in the bigger size was more expensive to a point of extortion.

This is a wonderful cooler. It's honestly the best cooler I've ever had. The size is perfect for many applications; we use it mostly on our boat or for traveling. We got this specific mid-sized one because it fits both in the compartment in our boat where we want it, and it fits nicely between the two rear seats in our SUV. It clearly is very thermally efficient as it keeps items very cold; I'm actually familiar with Dometic as a company from working with them on occasion at my job, and they make very good products in multiple industries from my experience. The dual-opening lid with a big handle that you can open with one hand is a massive game changer for me on the boat, since I can just reach into that compartment and quickly grab a drink or snack from it instead of getting down on the floor, unzipping, etc. It's truly the best cooler I've ever had. The one complaint I would make about it, which I noticed others mentioned, is that the handles have stiffer plastic/rubber on them that fits together to make one handle, and maybe even has a small amount of magnets in it, but it does not work very well so putting the two handles together is basically useless as it just comes apart as you carry it. It's such a minor issue that I wouldn't hesitate to buy this based on it, but it's something Dometic should consider improving on; if there were stronger magnets in it that kept it together better, it would be basically a perfect cooler.

Have any of the people who gave high marks for this product actually used this cooler? I am highly doubting it at this point! Why? Read on! Let's talk about the good first. This cooler is one of the best looking ones I have come across. The colors are great, the logo is great, the overall look is at the top of the mountain. Good job. There is ample room in the cooler which gives you the ability to take quite a bit of food and drinks, but there is an issue with this fact in the case of this cooler. More about that later. The handling would seem to be not as comfortable, but if you thought so, you will be surprised. The magnetic handle is nice, and the strap feels solid yet lies softly on your shoulder. Even when it comes to the lid, I do not have any issues with the product. It works just as intended. Now the reason why I am giving the low rating. A cooler can look amazing, it can have incredible capacity, but if it doesn't do the one thing well it is made for, at a price that is not justified, we do NOT have a winning product. We have a flashy widget. At the top of the cooler world, coolers keep ice for over a week. Forget about that when it comes to the Dometic Recon. Recon? What a joke of a name for this kind of performance. In the last image you can see how much ice was left of a big bag of ice after just a few hours, not even close to a day by any stretch of the imagination. To get performance that is far far away from the performance of a cheap Coleman cooler or other cheaper coolers which cost less than a fourth (probably more less than a 7th), is embarrassing. I have had quite a few coolers, but this was the most disappointing performance I have seen. To be fair, I have tested this several times on different days and in different climates. The result was always the same: This is VASTLY overpriced for the money they want for the cooler. Dear Dometic, how about we work on making this thing do it's job first and then we can worry about design?

This is a great little cooler. Super solid build quality and retains cold surprisingly well. Lightweight and compact. It was larger than I thought it would be when I ordered but still fits bends my seat in my vehicle. The lid can be hinged open or completely removed for loading and unloading. Great for 1-2 day outdoor adventures!

If you don't mind spending a lot of money to keep your snacks and beverages cool, this might be a good solution for you. It's certainly a very high quality. The color is unique, if that's important to you, and it's comparatively lightweight given it's size. It has ample room for a couple or small family for a warm afternoon outing, and it definitely keeps you items cool. But again, it's extremely expensive. Personally - despite the high quality construction and materials - I don't think it's worth it.

Love this cooler! It is ridged, yet soft. It is easy to clean and dry. The handles magnetically snap together. Comes with a shoulder strap if you want to carry your cooler that way. Keeps ice for quite some time. The lid is clipped, not zipped into place like other soft coolere. The lid clip/hinge is the coolest thing about this. It can be unclipped on either side, meaning you can have left swing, right swing, or completely remove the lid! How cool is that!? This cooler is of the highest quality. It is very durable, and is a really good size for a picnic, a road trip, a float trip, or a weekend camping trip. It holds a lot without being too big.
