I use BioGeometry (Science) to measure their effect on my visual cortex and they do work! This supplement contains natural extracts from marigold flowers. Extracts are readily absorbed by the body & deliver results. I like the ratio of Lutein (20mg) to Zeaxanthin (4mg). I take a supplement to fill dietary gaps. It's hard to get enough of Lutein & especially Zeaxanthin through diet alone.

I like this product okay and appreciate that it comes in a soy free casing. After a week or so of taking it, I felt it was a step down from the gummy I was taking prior to this (same dosage). There was a distinct reduction in clarity of vision. Maybe it's just my gut isn't digesting this pill as quickly as it should or it's time released. My vision overall doesn't seem to be as clear as when I was taking the gummy brand. OTOH, my eyes don't ever hurt taking this pill, like they did taking the gummy. It was clear the gummy wore off every day around 1 or 2 pm. With this pill, my eyes don't ever really hurt from being weary like that. I just wish my vision were clearer at all times with this pill, like with the gummy. Some good on both sides. ... show more

I started taking this as a way to mitigate possible skin damage (I use a sperti UV-B Vitamin D lamp daily) and lutein has been shown to reduce photo-aging and photo-carcinogenesis in chronically UVB-irradiated skin. I cycle this supplement one month on / one month off, and each time after about 7 days into a new cycle, I noticed that I could type faster. Awesome. I looked for research to support this and found an article indicating an effect on visual-motor abilities and psychomotor speed concluding that "Accumulating evidence has shown that LZ may influence various aspects of brain function ranging from visual-motor to executive functions". I also have IBS-D, this gives me zero side effects. Update Aug 2019: I feel like I can think much more clearly and quickly since taking this. I started looking at evidence for cognitive effects (beyond visual-motor) of lutein, and there's actually tons out there!! It's apparently now referred to as a nootropic. Certainly feels like it, and with no downside at all. My brain just feels younger! Here's an example of what I found in studies: "Higher plasma lutein and zeaxanthin were associated with better scores across the domains of cognition, memory, and executive function" "Lutein preferentially accumulates in the human brain across multiple life stages." "Among the carotenoids, brain lutein content was the most consistently related to cognitive test scores". Now that I'm looking more closely at the product description, it says it right there: " Preliminary studies suggest they can enhance brain functions.". This has been a fantastic supplement.
