Worked easily on a brand new chain. I didn't try it on an old crusty one, but I imagine with some penetrating oil it'd do fine there too. Make sure you're straight-on and centered before you crank down on the thing. If you put too much sideways force on it you will break the tool.

I used this chain breaker to break the chain on my 80cc motorized bicycle with a chain size of 415. Worked great! Though I had a friend help me because I'm not too experienced with breaking chains. The clamps don't hold the back plate so just be patient as you push the pin out. It will work. I even had to out a link back on the chain, a little tricky but it worked! I tried everything for my bike such as chain tensioners and such. I had a such a long chain I had to break it, I'm still using a chain tensioner for the minor slack. I was a little skeptical of buying it because of the bad reviews but it worked great! ... show more

The tool handles extremely well and does a flawless job. I was able to reuse a link recently due to a problem with the master link I had in stock. If I had to find anything to complain about I would mention there were no instructions included but an inexperienced person would do fine if they find the right video on You Tube. I would recommend the vendor make a You Tube video and reference the link. ... show more

broke on first use but they replaced it with no questions and was very timely manner used it one other time and worked okay haven't use it again. more of a do it your selfer I wouldn't recommend if you use on a regular basis

The chain breaker has made separating chain's better than having to use a wheel cutter. Comes in a decent package a hard plastic case would be better but it does come with a extra link punch which is nice. I know the punch can be lost easy but in a pinch easy to make one out of a nail set.
