  • A simple & informative breakdown for DSLR cameras IN COLOR
Exactly as described and pictured. Contains easy to understand “do’s” and “don’t s” and valuable tips. It’s a good addition to my library.

  • An Excellent Beginning to DSLR Photography
The author, David Busch, has done a wonderful job in detailing this book for a "hobbyist photographer" like me. Years ago my first encounter with a DSLR was not one that I felt confident about, so I decided take a class. I found that the class was dedicated to taking pictures and not explaining the camera itself. I decided that I'd better stick to point and shoot. But more recently I have since learned that there are so many types of photography which have captured my interest and a better understanding of the DSLR camera, how it works and what it can add to the enjoyment of working with such a multifaceted tool. Because of the 5th edition of David Busch's book I have found answers, images and ideas that I can use to further my interest in using my DSLR to enhance my interest and understanding of photography that I wasn't even aware of. I am now a very happy "hobbyist". ... show more

  • Buy technology books “new”
I realize now that when I’m buying a book dealing with technology, it’s probably best to buy new. This was originally a library book that is an older addition. A lot of the information will be useful but some may be outdated. Sellers should probably indicate the date published. Other than that, the condition “acceptable” seems correct ... show more

  • Exactly What I Need
After using an advanced amateur/semipro level film SLR for decades, I acquired a comparable dSLR. David Busch supplied exactly the information that I needed to get up and running by explaining--without extraneous information--the protocols of digital photography. It was "out of the box" to "out taking photographs" in less than two hours. However, a friend who is planning to upgrade from a film point and shoot camera to an entry level dSLR could not understand word one. Caveat: You need to have a working knowledge of the way a SLR camera works in order to benefit from this book. ... show more

  • Way too complicated for a Dummies book.
This review is for Digital SLR Cameras and Photography For Dummies Kindle Edition. Normally when I purchase "Dummies" books I feel like they're written for real dummies, too much fluff and not enough content. This particular book I feel is written exactly in the opposite form, it seems a little more complicated than I expected. The book explains the difference between full frame and partial frame cameras, and how the focal length of a lens is different than its actual rating depending on the type of camera body you connect it to and whether it's full frame or partial. It then keeps bringing up all of these numbers in examples which quite frankly have be confused and overwhelmed. Yes, this is information which you absolutely need to know.. but the constant hammering on them right up front and the way they approach it.. to me is just awful. I found myself browsing YouTube for videos to see if I could find a more user-friendly explanation that I could understand so I didn't feel lost in this book. I came across a YouTube video from a photographer / author named Tony Northrup and his wife Chelsea. The videos were so user friendly, easy to understand, and referenced a book of theirs called "Stunning Digital Photography", so I purchased that book too and started reading it. It is WORLDS apart from this dummies book. The ebook version includes imbedded videos and free updates, Tony is a genius. I suggest checking it out. If anything, read that book first and then go back to the Dummies book and you feel like you still need the info, it'll at least be a lot easier to understand at that point. ... show more
