Top Amazon Reviews

  • Another Excellant Flashback CD To The Psychedelic 1960s!
There are already a few Amazon Customer Reviews from previous years on this CD and most of them have already explained just how good this CD Package really is so all I'm gonna do is put in my 2 cents worth. I just purchased the "Dick Bartley Presents Collector's Essentials: The '70s" CD from Amazon recently and: as of this day: I haven't even recieved it yet: but I purchased this "Dick Bartley Presents Collector's Essentials: The '60s" from Amazon over eight years ago on August 19th of 2014 and it's Excellant! In referance to the Era just prior and also during the time these Classic Songs were on The Charts: it was a trying time for us all but The Music was Always Great then! Those of you of age will know what I'm talking about! These 15 Songs Peaked on The AM Charts between 1965 and 1969. On occasion: you will still hear some of them on Classic Radio Channels but some of them: you will not! All of these Songs were in The Top 100 and 13 of them were Top 40s. I have Fond Memories of all of these Songs on This "Dick Bartley" CD but a couple of them are even More Special to me and those 2 are The Turtles "She's My Girl" and The Bubble Puppy's "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass". The reason is: I had both of these on Original Vinyl 45 Records when they were both new and riding high on the charts. "She's My Girl" Peaked at #14 in 1967 and "Hot Smoke & Sasafrass" Peaked at #14 in 1969. A little later during that decade or maybe 1970: I would also have "She's My Girl" on "The Turtles More Golden Hits" 8-Track Tape when it was first issued. This 1996 Varese Sarabande CD Package's Liner Sleeve has eight pages of info & Pictures and The CD Sound Quality is Outstanding! Of these 15 Songs: I already have 7 of these Songs on other CDs by these Artists but: for the most part: The Sound Quality of those same Songs is better on this CD. As a matter of fact: The Sound Quality of The Shades Of Blue Song "Oh How Happy" is Much Better on this CD than it is on my "Collectables: A Golden Classics Edition: The Shades Of Blue" CD! I have several Collectables CDs and the Sound Quality is Very Good to Excellant on just about all of them but The Shades Of Blue CD is not. Final Comment for you younger 1980s Music Fans!........If The Voice of The Equals 1968 #32 Hit Song "Baby Come Back" from this CD sounds familiar: listen to Eddy Grant's 1983 Hit Song "Electric Avenue" again! Yep! Same Guy! Eddy was only one of several 1960s Music Artists who also made their presence known during The 1980s! Aaron Neville is another Artist on This CD who had Hit Songs well Beyond The 1960s into The 1980s!........Enjoy The Music! ... show more

  • Memories....
This CD is loaded with some great but not often heard songs. I have never understood why Don Fardon's rendition of "Indian Reservation", which is the ORIGINAL version, didn't top the charts. In my opinion it outclassed the remake by a wide margin. I would guess that Don has some Indian blood in him from the way he put his heart into the song. This song alone would be enough to get my dollars, but with "Pied Piper" and "Laurie" on the same CD...well, it's a steal. Keep 'em coming, guys! ... show more

  • One Of A Number Of Excellent Bartley/Varèse-Sarabande Collaborations
Dick Bartley, a renowned U.S. disk-jockey whose career was launched in mid-1969, and Varèse-Sarabande, one of the premier distributors of Golden Oldies, have combined in the production of a number of excellent CD compilations, including this 1996 release which pulls together 15 sides that captured, to varying degrees of success, national attention from 1965 to 1969. As usual with Varèse-Sarabande products, the sound reproduction quality is excellent (all are in stereo except tracks 1, 9 and 15) and it comes with a 6-page insert containing track-by-track comments written by Bartley sprinkled with vintage poster/ad reproductions (in b&w). The reverse of the jewel case also contains a discography of the contents showing label details and the highest position reached on the Billboard Pop Hot 100. Most of the contents have long since appeared in any number of quality compilations, but there are 3 sides that, even today, are hard to find in excellent CD format. One is the ORIGINAL 1968 single rendition of Don Fardon's recording of the John D. Loudermilk composition Indian Reservation (The Lament Of The Cherokee Reservation Indian). Invariably, what you see is a later re-made version or the 1971 cover by Paul Revere & The Raiders. Another is You've Got To Be Loved by the British group The Montanas, a late-comer in the British Invasion who only managed that one Hot 100 entry in the U.S. and, in fact, didn't do all that well in their native U.K. either. The third is Did You See Her Eyes by The Illusion, which was released twice in 1969 by Steed Records in two slightly different renditions (the first was Steed 712). This is the charted version. The full contents and their label/chart details (including R&B and Adult Contemporary where applicable) are: 1. The Pied Piper - Crispian St. Peters - # 4 H100 June-July 1966 - Jamie 1320; 2. Tell It Like It Is - Aaron Neville - #1 R&B for 5 weeks/# 2 H100 Dec 1966-Feb 1967 - Par-Lo 101; 3.
