I am not hilling up anything.... not asparagus, not leeks, not melons. These are the gift from the leek gods and wow, wow, wow, what a difference it has made in my no-till garden. I start my leeks in soil blocks and when they're a good eight inches tall, I use the dibber to make the hole, at the right depth, at the right diameter. Drop that leek seedling in and the rest is magic. I bought this dibber because it's made in the USA and I like supporting businesses where I live. It's well made, ergonomically friendly, and affordable. You don't have to use it just for leeks, of course, but if you're big on not tilling your garden/raised beds and disrupting the ecosystem that lies beneath, use a dibber and see what happens. ... show more

It works well for small bulbs. It will penetrate dense soil. Ned to go deep to work for daffodils and tulips. A blunter tips would be better.

I planted 45 tulip bulbs with this device. I had some doubts because the area in which I planted the bulbs is mostly clay. However, when I turned the device as I pressed down, it cut through the clay and then pulled it out in a nice 4-6 inch plug. I was impressed with the ease at which it worked.
