Description

The DW660 Cut-Out Tool has a powerful 5.0 Amp, 30,000 rpm motor with a slim design and durable construction. Features fast and tool-free bit changing and easy operation with the turn-on/bump-off switch. In recent years, rotary cutout tools have soared in popularity, due mainly to a series of television infomercials promoting one brand. Though it doesn't receive the TV airplay of its main competitor, this DeWalt model uses a durable 5 amp motor--the most powerful motor yet in a cutout tool--making it a great tool for professional drywallers, electricians, and carpenters. To help battle dust infiltration, the tool features a sealed motor and switch, a must for any serious drywall tool. It also sports a quick-and-easy, tool-free bit- changing system and comes with both 1/8 and 1/4 inch collets. We really like the bump-off switch for quick tool shutdown and the simple and effective tool- free depth adjustments. Like other rotary cutout tools, this one uses spiral cutting bits, which work equally well plunging into a cut as they do laterally. In our test we found the DeWalt to be smooth running with low vibration. We had no problem plunging and cutting through 1-1/2 inches of solid birch, whizzing through drywall, and tearing through tile. In fact, this tool has more power than you'd expect from something of its size, and if you aren't paying attention, it can get away from you--an easier to live with problem than lack of power. Some extraordinary claims have been made about rotary cutout tools, and while DeWalt's cutout tool is as versatile as any we've tried, and a bit more powerful than most, it's most effective at what it was designed for--quick cutouts in drywall, tile, and plywood. --Brian Trinen P.when('A').execute(function(A) { A.on('a:expander:toggle_description:toggle:collapse', function(data) { window.scroll(0, data.expander.$expander[0].offsetTop-100); }); }); From the Manufacturer Professionals asked for a better cutout tool and DeWalt delivered. The DW660 boasts a 5 amp, 30,000 rpm motor that cuts through drywall, plywood, ceramic tile, Plexiglas, cement board, countertops, and acoustical ceiling tile. It boasts up to 25 percent more power when cutting double board or windows. This machine offers a tool-free bit change, so you no longer waste time looking for lost wrenches, and the bump-off-style switch is dust-sealed. Other features include a slim body design, adjustable guide, 10-foot rubber cord with internal cord clamp, and a jam pot design, making this tool job site tough. Your purchase includes the cutout tool, shoe, drywall bit, 1/8- and 1/4-inch collets. • dewalt dw660 rotary tool
Color: Multi Size: One Size
Excellent impressive tool -- but I expected this from DeWalt and I wasn't disappointed. Years ago I had purchased a rotozip brand tool and it burned out on first use. I had to finish what I was doing with a regular single speed Dremel Tool. So I was turned off by rotary tools. However I had a lot of cutout work to do -- carpenters lace type trim work for the porch and gable trim. I hate a scroll saw because of the pain of having to unhook and rehook the blade every time you start to cut in a new area; and I did not want to pay the expense of a band saw; I just would not use it often enough to justify and my jig saw just wasn't maneuverable enough in tight patterns. So I went to Amazon and asked for rotary saws to see what was out there and BAM -- there it was DeWalt! I don't care what anyone else says I LOVE DeWalt tools; they have never let me down. From my 10" table saw; 10" compound Miter saw; drills; sanders; planner; table router; trim router and now rotary saw my DeWalt tools have always served me well. This rotary saw cut through 3/4" hardwood and 3/4" treated exterior pine plywood -- yes folks, like a hot knife through butter. With the first cut I knew I had hit the jack-pot. There was no strain on the tool, it handled the wood effortlessly, and I had no trouble controlling it as I cut freehanded through the wood. The ring guide kept the blade perpendicular to the wood and the cuts were clean and smooth. I cut a lot of scallops; circles; scrolls; curls and whatnots through several pieces of 7 - 8 foot long boards and with this saw I did it fast. I bought just the saw because I did not know if it would work but I would advise people to also purchase the D-handle attachment you can get for it. I think it would make holding the tool more comfortable; especially if you are doing a lot of cutting. By the time I was finished I had cramps in my fingers for several days. And that is the ONLY complaint I have. I realize 7 foot long boards would have been very cumbersome to maneuver through a scroll saw or even a band saw and a jig saw just would have taken way too long. I did my whole project in one 2-day weekend. Thank you DeWalt! Thank you Amazon for getting it to me in less than 4 days! Oh and I forgot to mention, I am a 52 year old woman and I am proudly a woodworker with 23 years experience at the craft! So stand back -- look out -- I'm on fire now. When I get done the neighborhood will never be the same! ... show more

  • Works as expected.
Color: Multi Size: One Size
Used this to cut holes in Alumicore (thin plastic sandwiched between two thin sheets of aluminum about 1/8" thickness overall) material used in sign making. I know this is designed for drywall, but I chanced trying this out and it worked well. Both holes were about 8" in diameter.

  • Awesome on a CNC router
Color: Multi Size: One Size
My high school students designed and built a CNC router on the cheap, with a used DW660 as its cutter. After two years (a couple hundred hours) of use, the motor went in the one I picked up at a flea market. Considering the expected use for a tool like this is minutes at a time and we tend to use it for hours long cuts, we definitely got our money's worth. We just bought one a couple of weeks ago here to replace it. Yes, the tool free change system is somewhat difficult to use, but if it's that big of a deal to you, it can be taken off and you can use a wrench many of the other brands have. That part went bad on mine near the end, and I did just that. It's not a big deal. You can google how to do it. The only real drawback to using this on your router is the noise and the lack of speed control. It's much louder than any spindle. I get a reading of 85db a few feet away from it, though that is somewhat unreliable since it's using a smart phone app instead of a properly calibrated instrument. It's much more powerful than most spindles, so the only reasons I'd think of switching would be the noise and the lack of speed control. Spinning at 30,000rpm works for wood better than you think, though you have to keep your movement speed up so the wood doesn't catch fire. (not a joke) The problem with the fast cutting speed comes to substances like Plexiglas. It tends to melt instead of cutting re-solidifies after the cutter goes through. A router speed controller can be used to help this problem somewhat, though it loses too much power if you go too low Yescom Variable Fan/Router Speed Controller 3 Settings Hydroponics Inline Fan Exhaust Air 500W to 1500W Adjuster I should mention that the old one gave out not very long after I started using a router speed controller with it. I know that they are controversial... I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the motor giving the ghost since the new one sounds better than I can remember the old one sounding for quite a while. ... show more

  • Good, Powerful Cut
Color: Multi Size: One Size
Spent some time researching between this and the comparable RotoZip model. The RotoZip had way too much marketing with it (infomercial type of advertising) which is why I went with this. The multiple attachments for the Rotozip sort of scared me as I've seen these kinds of tools come and go. It may well be just as good or better. Just received this tool yesterday. Wanted to test on a piece of 3/4" plyboard to assess the power, speed, etc. Used 1/8" RotoZip multipurpose bits. Just a note on these, the Dewalt ONLY takes 1/8" OR 1/4" bits. Be careful when buying bits as the Rotozip line of bits also comes in a 5/32" bit, which will NOT fit in this drill. Not sure if I understood the directions on how to insert or remove a bit using the lock and unlock buttons. I found it easier just to get an open ended socket wrench to do these functions. Will go back and read to see if I missed something. Tested a cutout for a low voltage install. Overall, very pleased with the power, and speed at which I was able to make the cutout. Did two cutouts and each took no more than a minute, which was very nice considering the thickness of the board. Would imagine that it would go even faster on thinner material. Did notice that the dust did go all over the place, as noted in other reviews for this product. HOWEVER, given the power that this has and the speed in which it cuts, I'll gladly spend the extra 2 minutes with a shop vac instead of getting a shoulder workout with a handsaw. Overall, very pleased with first impression and test. ... show more
