  • This Tool is Fantastic - Straight through 2 inches of Oak!
I don't give 5 stars very often but this tool is superb. First the very concept of 23 gauge is useful. It is like shooting metal hairs. The fastener is so fine that it requires virtually no caulking. Next, Dewalt did everything right, from the mar-proof tip to the double trigger to the gate for clearing jams. The tip is soft and since there is no spring-loaded safety, the gun does not mar the wood. It only jams if you hit something made of steel. Then it clears easily by just opening the head. THIS TOOL DROVE A 2-INCH 23 GAUGE NAIL STRAIGHT THROUGH SOLID OAK, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. And the head was countersunk precisely. NOTE: Since this gun has no safety release at the tip, it is like a striker-fired pistol. The safety is in you brain and if you don't have it working you could get a nasty wound. DO NOT GET USED TO WALKING AROUND WITH THE SET TRIGGER DEPRESSED. Because if you bump the fire trigger it will spit a nail straight at where you are pointing. Keep your fingers off both triggers until you are ready to fasten. Then hold down the set trigger with your middle finger and use your index trigger to depress the fire trigger each time you want to fire a nail. AS SOON AS YOU ARE DONE NAILING FOR THE MOMENT, RELEASE BOTH TRIGGERS AND CARRY THE GUN BY THE HANDLE. ... show more

  • lightweight and ergonomic
Works great. Lightweight and simple to use. Great value for a Dewalt product. I considered getting the battery model but my friend has one and it is too heavy with battery attached.

  • Solid gun. Highly recommend. Solid gun. Highly recommend.
I had a job that required me to install 500sf of 3/8 recycled tongue and groove teak panelling on a ceiling. The tongues were very thin and using a brad nailer left too large an inset and often split the tongue. I did some research and opted for this gun. I couldn't be happier. This was one of the only guns I could find with both depth adjustment and a low nail lockout. Both worked flawlessly. For this kind of production nailing the lockout is mandatory. I could see going half a row of boards and realize your showing blanks without it! The depth control was great. It enabled me to countersink the pins in the joint. They hold pretty well, not as well as a brad. I fired 3 pins at every joist at opposing angles which vastly improved hold (boards were glued too). You can imagine how many of these I shot -- almost a whole pound of Grex stainless pins (that's a lot). Not a single jam. Not a single misfire. Amazing. I don't think any other nailer I own could do that (I own a lot). When you want to flush nail it's an easy adjustment. The nose opens with a simple clip and depth is easy to adjust. If it ever did Jam it would be super easy to clear. Lastly... I said it was a ceiling right? I must have dropped this off the top of the scaffold about 50 times, 8' onto a stone patio. Never missed a beat. I can't recommend this tool highly enough. ... show more

  • Perfect
This gun is exactly what I needed. Good size and power. leaves no nose dents like my old pin nailer that has no nose guard. Countersinks pins very well. I was surprised how well it shot the 2" pins. My most common sizes are 1 3/8 and 7/8" pins but it sure is nice to be able to lock stacked trims with the 2". I do find it a little difficult to fire the gun in tight restricted spaces because of the safety but again, "my old gun" has fired accidentally several times in the past so I wont complain too much about the safety. I also appreciate this gun being oil free. Most applications I will use this on are stained or raw stain grade trims so oil free is great. Over all--excellent gun, I recommend it. ... show more

  • Quality Control issues?
I ordered this pin nailer for the second time after returning the first on that I ordered a few days ago. Both nailers had the exacts same problem. I read the setup instructions and wanted to see how to eject a stuck pin. The manual says to push in and up on tabs both sides of the head. I tried this but the tabs were frozen, not able to move them at all. I even carefully tried to apply more pressure with a large size channel lock pliers, no luck. This would have been so simple to discover during assembly and check out. This makes me wonder how well or if at all the tool was checked out. I took a leap and thought maybe I got a lemon. I tried calling Dewalt from a phone number in the manual. The person I talked to said that there was no one available at all to talk to me about a fix. They recommended that I return it which I did. When I got the second nailer with exactly the same problem, I promptly returned it and purchased a different brand. It seems that there are some quality control problems so I would not recommend this tool to anyone. ... show more
