  • 2008 Lexus is250 RWD.... Great Ride Quality — A Few Installation Lessons for Fellow DIYers
Size: 4AQ54088/ strut shock kit
★★★★★ 2008 Lexus IS250 RWD This was my first time ever replacing shocks and struts, so I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. In the end, these ride amazing. I honestly think my Lexus rides better than when it was new. Here are a few surprises I ran into during the installation: 1. I didn't realize two of the struts did not come with springs and that I would need to transfer my old springs to the new struts. Because of that, I had to buy a spring compressor for about $30. 2. I didn't realize the rear shocks came complete with the springs, while the front struts required transferring the original springs. 3. I didn't realize the front struts did not include dust boots, so I purchased a set for about $50 and attached them with zip ties. 4. I learned what a bump stop was. Luckily, my original bump stops were still in good condition and didn't need replacement. For anyone new to suspension work, they're located on the upper mount assembly with the three mounting studs. 5. Most important tip: LINE UP YOUR UPPER MOUNT WITH THE LOWER EYELET BEFORE ASSEMBLING EVERYTHING. Don't assume they're aligned correctly. I completely assembled one side only to discover the lower eyelet was about 20 degrees off from the mounting bracket. At first I thought something was wrong with the part, but after taking it back apart, I noticed alignment marks on the shaft and lower bracket. Once I rotated everything into the correct position, the strut slid into place like a glove. No forcing, prying, or fighting required. 6. While you're at it, spend the extra $10 on a tie rod separator tool. It made the job much easier and was well worth the money. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this purchase. The ride quality is excellent, the price was hard to beat, and despite the learning curve, I would absolutely buy these again. ... show more

  • Strut install
Size: 4AQ54105/ strut shock kit
These made a noticeable difference in the way my 2015 Buick Lacrosse with 85,000 miles rides. The struts on the car were original and the gradual wear on them wasn't obvious. After installing these Detroit Axle struts everything firmed up, steering is more certain, no noticeable oscillating even shifting through the six speed transmission is improved. The removal and installation can be challenging as you will need a tool to hold the strut shaft while removing the nut and especially when installing the new strut shaft nuts to the recommended torque specifications. Harbor Freights carries a socket set that allows the shaft to stick up through the socket and a ratchet that fits around the top of the socket, you can then hold the strut shaft while removing the nut. This may not work for all cars but it could sure make things easier if it does. ... show more

  • Incorrect Struts for 2016 Jeep Cherokee, Unacceptable Service from Detroit Axle Incorrect Struts for 2016 Jeep Cherokee, Unacceptable Service from Detroit Axle
Size: 4AQ54527/ strut shock kit
1-Star Review: Incorrect Struts for 2016 Jeep Cherokee, Unacceptable Service from Detroit Axle Order Date: September 13, 2024 Order Total: $460.81 Product: Lower Control Arm Kit (including shocks and struts) for 2016 Jeep Cherokee As a long-term Detroit Axle customer, I am deeply disappointed by this purchase. The shocks installed without issue and performed well. However, the struts are 1 to 1.5 inches too long and incompatible with my 2016 Jeep Cherokee (see photos: one comparing original Jeep struts to Detroit Axle’s, another showing original Jeep, Detroit Axle, and Monroe struts purchased to replace them). Upon receipt in 2024, we inspected the parts, and the packaging appeared correct. Due to unforeseen circumstances, installation was delayed until early September 2025. Upon attempting to install the struts, we discovered they do not fit. After this failed attempt, Detroit Axle confirmed via multiple calls that the part number was correct for our vehicle but failed to address the parts’ incompatibility. Without test-fitting by disassembling the Jeep, how could any customer know the struts were incorrect when the packaging was accurate and the part number later verified? With all the run around our vehicle has been inoperable for two weeks, forcing us to purchase Monroe struts to restore functionality, at significant additional cost. Detroit Axle’s response was inadequate: Unresponsive Support: Multiple calls yielded no resolution, only deflections. Unreasonable Warranty Process: Their 10-year warranty requires installing the struts—an impossibility given their incorrect size—followed by a mechanic’s inspection and a 2–3 week review by their inspectors. This policy is impractical and obstructive. Misplaced Blame: They claimed we “should have inspected” the parts beyond the correct packaging, an unreasonable expectation when the part number was confirmed correct post-installation. This suggests a failure in quality control, likely mislabeling or incorrect packaging. Detroit Axle’s refusal to facilitate a return or refund undermines their warranty claims. Recommendation: Exercise caution when purchasing items from Detroit Axle for a 2016 Jeep Cherokee. Even with confirmed part numbers, verify compatibility upon receipt, though this is challenging without test-fitting. Consider reliable alternatives like Monroe or KYB to avoid costly disruptions. ... show more

  • Great budget shocks and struts
These fit perfectly. As a courier who drives around 350 miles daily, I have put around 42000 miles on these since install. The have recently started to make a little noise, but for the conditions I drive in that can be expected. They are softer than the stock shocks and struts, but not an issue for me. ... show more

  • Perfect fit!
Size: 10104-4/ strut shock kit
You don't know how bad they are until you replace them. Wow! No more 'bouncing'. Nice and firm, washboard is easier to drive on [still not fun, but more tolerable]. These are a perfect fit on my 2007 Toyota Tacoma. I gave them a 5 star, "Ease to install", as they are...that is .. once you manage to get the old dirty nuts and bolts off. THAT was the work. I had both rear shocks on in about an hour [having to jack up each wheel at a time, I don't have a good floor jack]. The front shocks however, took another 2 to 3 hours. And again, that was due to having to jack one side up at a time, and then fight to get those old nuts off. I thought for sure I was going to snap the bottom bolt on one. But once you get the tie rods loose, the old struts out.. putting the new ones in took a matter of about 10 to 20 minutes to get them in place and re-install the tie rods. The one thing that was hard, was the upper wheel mount plates: I had to use a piston jack to push them back down, as once they are loosened, they spring upward, and it takes a fair amount of strength to pull them back down and hold them in place when replacing the connecting bolts. As for the shocks themselves; they made the ride like new! I highly recommend them for the DIYer. ... show more
