I used the hoop first to embroider a design on each block of a finished quilt. I had started using the hoop that came with my machine, but it took longer than to stitch out the design. So I finally broke down and ordered the magnetic hoop. What a difference! Very easy to hoop, held the quilt securely, worked great. Makes hooping so much easier than a non magnetic hoop for end-to-end embroidery. If they were more reasonably priced there would probably be a lot more sold.

    • Times save and much easier hooping.
It does make hooping much easier and can even facilitate rehooping while still on the embroidery arm when doing edge to edge quilting. I used it twice on a Big Dream panel and both times the quilt slipped a bit. On edge to edge, I don’t think it would be an issue, but in using IQ, the shift was noticeable. I gave it a second try and it shifted as well. So, when quilting in IQ, I’ll stick to my regular hoop, but for projects not using IQ I think it will be a big time saver. That being said, I do think it would be just fine on the Solaris, because it images the material in the hoop, rather than than loading an image from the IQ positing app. I have the Altair and the hoop fits just fine. If you do use it in IQ, you will need to lay the inside portion of the hoop that came with your machine on top of the magnetic hoop so the app recognizes it. I have a 5x7 monster hoop and absolutely love it. I’ve had no slipping with it, but I’m using it mostly on individual blocks prior to sewing together or Kimberbell projects. ... show more
