I am planning on gifting this to my 8 yr old son. We have purchased several $20-$50 RC cars in the past and I've been disappointed with their quality and battery life. But this RC car is so much better. It's very well made and is an amazing price for the value. I wanted to test drive it before I committed to keeping it. Here are my findings... Packaging: Lightweight, good quality packaging with fun graphics. The car is encased in styrofoam. I found it awesome that I didn't have a gazillion plastic tags or rubber bands or screws to take it apart from the packaging. In a little baggy you'll find the manual, battery charger, extra screws, and a screw driver. Controller: Strong hold on the battery lid. It takes 2 AA batteries. It seems to be intended for the left hand to hold it and the right-hand turns the dial. Push it forward to reverse the car. Pull it back to move the car forward. The battery: the car comes with one in the battery compartment (which is very easy to access btw on the belly of the car), fully charged and ready to go. You just have to connect the two ends for it to supply power to the car. To release the connectors it takes two hands as there are 3 clips that need pressure. I timed the battery and it was still going strong at 20 1/2 minutes! I was super impressed! And remember, it comes with a second battery. That's some serious play time compared to others we have purchased. The Car: It measures at 11 inches long x 7 1/2 inches wide x 6 1/2 inches tall. It has really good shocks and a sturdy body. The detail inside the body of the car is so cute. I can totally see my son putting LEGO guys in it to drive around! It has 4 lights across the top that kids will find awesome! Especially in the dark! It drives and reverses well. It bumbs softly into walls and such. I had it climb over books and clothing and piles of towels. It has great power and totally can if the incline isn't too steep. If it's too steep it will just flip over and get stuck on its back. No biggie. I did notice that once it's engaged in one direction it's a little sluggish in responding to turn the other way. But for kids I actually prefer that. It doesn't go super duper fast but fast enough for beginners, for sure! My husband noted that it has front and rear motors and a tracking adjuster on the belly of the number. All in all, this is an amazing entry-level RC car. Its quality is so much better than anything I've seen or purchased from your typical large stores that carry toys. I think my son is going love this and be able to play with it much longer than other ones we've gotten in the past. ... show more

**Updated** My kids have been abusing the truck for several months now and am very impressed by its durability. Everything I wrote prior to the update remains true, but this thing has gone down the stairs, off the kitchen table, and smashed into things more times than I can count but it has been remarkably resilient. When my kids finally managed to break one of the front drive components by literally tackling the truck, the seller actually replaced the entire truck! I was hoping they'd send me a new part and I could do the surgery myself, but no- they replaced the entire thing outright! I was skeptical at first but the durability of the truck and the above and beyond customer service made me change my rating from 2 stars up to 4! Also, to help salvage the original (broken) truck I just removed the front axle making it 2-wheel drive instead of 4. The truck seems faster now and is much more maneuverable since the front wheels can turn independently of each other, greatly tightening the turning radius. ** I have a few hobby-grade RCs and bought this for my 3.5 year-old so she can play with her own "hobbyist model". My expectations were relatively low given the price point, but based on all of the positive reviews I was expecting this to be much better. I chose this model because it has what I consider a "normal" style controller (a trigger and steering wheel, as opposed to two control sticks like many other "toy" models) and very positive reviews. My pros & cons are listed below: PROs: Pistol-style transmitter. This is the style used by hobby-grade cars and I wanted to familiarize my daughter with this style of controller. Durability. My daughter has smashed this into every stationary object in the house and has taken it down a few stairs as well. Shockingly nothing has broken yet. Size. The truck itself is small, but a good size for inside play without worrying about damaging anything or hurting anybody. The controller is small enough for a small child's hand. Fun. My daughter loves it, which at the end of the day, is exactly what I wanted. Cons: Controller. The controller is awful and feels extremely cheap. There isn't a light to indicate whether the controller is on or off so it's very easy to accidentally leave it on. The throttle is either on or off- there is nothing in between so you cannot vary your speed at all. The same is true for the steering- either full turn or no turn, nothing in between. Maneuverability. Despite it's tiny size, this truck unfortunately has a huge turning radius making it nearly impossible to maneuver inside. Also, as noted above, its speed is either all or nothing. Not being able to drive slowly (or steer) makes it extra difficult to control in smaller areas. Overall I would not recommend this toy. It looks pretty cool and my daughter likes it but it feels more like a $20 toy at best. ... show more

First off don't buy this car if you want something fast. It's not that fast but everything else is good. 4x4, extremely good price which not exactly sure how they can make a car so inexpensive and still works. Remote is on/off type, it's NOT progressive but that's ok bc it's not super fast. Certainly goes over the ruff stuff and best value I have found. ... show more

It does not go very fast. It seemed like it would be good for off roading in the back yard but didn’t work well in the small rocks at all. We also had to charge it a lot.

Great little RC car doesn’t go too fast. We’ve been using it almost daily for two weeks and it has been running perfect each time. Battery has good life. We had one before that went real fast and for a child it’s just too fast to handle. This is perfect speed.
