Except for the fact that it doesn't have a brushless motor, this one performs as well as their more expensive rc racers. Those may go a little faster, but this one does 25mph in a heartbeat, and that's plenty fast for me. In fact, unless you live near a dessert or open county, or have a huge EMPTY open parking lot or a huge gym floor, where can you SAFELY go 40mph anyway? This one is 1:14, which makes it a bit bigger, and heavier... read BEEFIER, than others in this under $100 price range. This one has a couple of welcome upgrades to other rc cars similar to this one. As you can see in my second pic, the start button is on the SIDE of the car, not inside. This means you don't have to pull those pins and take the body off just to start it. Nice. Then, the batteries, which are 7.4V and a whopping 1300mAh, not only last a whole 30 minutes each, but even more if you don't go crazy. Another nice feature with these is that the connection to the car is built into the battery as you can see in last pic. After charging, you simply drop the "brick" into the battery "box" and you're ready to go. No connecting wires and securing the battery with a Velcro strap or some sort of plastic arm that isn't always the easiest to secure. Makes the whole experience more FUN. Lastly, as you can see in the third pic, and why doesn't everybody do this, those pins that hold the body on are attached right to the body with a rubber connection, so they won't get lost. The pins are ALWAYS right there on the body ready to connect. So... a AST rc racer that is well built, and reasonably priced. Five full stars. ... show more

The quality is really good. It handles great very balanced. I changed out the shocks immediatly as it comes with crappy friction dampeners. Its not the fastest but its fun. would benefit from a brushless motor. BUYER BEWARE! parts are not available for this. I broke a driveshaft and could not get the part. The company offered to send me a replacement truck. The shafts are plastic in metal cups Just an engineering nightmare. no wonder they failed. Hpoefully Deerc with make a metal upgrade for this parts. PLEASE DEERC START MAKING PARTS. ... show more

Overall, I really like this little basher. It's not quite hobby-grade, but it's getting there. With a little ingenuity I'm sure you could find some compatible parts that would make it perform slightly better. It's a great truck if you have a little space for it to run. I also have a 1/18 scale basher, and these two trucks thrive in very different environments. The 1/18 is best in a small backyard or on a patio, whereas this truck is best at a park or somewhere with more open space. The touchy throttle and limited steering radius make it tough to drive in a smaller setting. Oh, and it is FAST. It's probably close to the claimed 40km/hr (25mph) when I had it on asphalt. Very pleased with this little truck and can't wait to drive it more. Pros: Excellent paint job and body styling (looks like a mini Arrma Fireteam 6S) Bearings throughout Tethered body clips CVDs/universal joints instead of dog bones Very tidy under the body Thick, rigid, high-quality plastic tub chassis Very fast for it's size Deans "T" plug and balance port on hard case batteries Standard 12mm wheel hexes 3.5" x 1.75" Tires are vented, decently soft, and mounted on beadlock wheels. Cons: Steering radius VERY touchy throttle (all or nothing) Bouncy shocks (cannot be filled with oil) Short wheelbase is a little squirrelly when accelerating and decelerating. 5-wire servo instead of a standard 3-wire Wheel "nuts" are basically just a coarse-threaded screw that's threaded into plastic ... show more

    • Fantastic low cost RC car that really shows up!

This is a really quick RC car. It is so fast that it is really easy to have it do a flip when you hit the accelerator. After the first couple times of this I installed the optional wheelie bar, it does a great job and prevents me from flipping anymore even when I try. You can still flip by breaking too hard as well, but it's not too hard to keep control of. It comes with two 2S batteries but the manual says it supports 1 3s 11.1V as well, I can only imagine how much quicker it would be with the easy upgrade. The batteries fit in a very secure custom fit compartment, so I don't know where to find the exact 3s battery it would need, but I haven't looked yet either. The undercarriage and headlights are a fun touch and makes driving around at night a lot of fun as well. It is a brushless motor and 4wd, it's really impressive. For some reason the charging port on one of the batteries is upside upside down, but it doesn't effect anything so no loss on stars. ... show more

I thought to myself, what could be so good with this truck that it would be worth over $125?? Well, there are a lot of things that could explain that. First off, we have been trying almost every RC car that comes across out sight. We have tried several that have been really good and were completely happy with those. However, this one may be way up at the top of that list now, if not THE top! It has a lot of power and can go pretty darn fast! It is very responsive with the remote and it has tackled almost all of the terrain that we can think to throw at it. This RC is a little bigger than the vast majority of the other RC's we've tried. At 1/14 vs 1/16, makes a considerable difference. There are seven different lighting modes, all of which are very cool. This would make a great gift for those older tweens who are so hard to buy for. It would also satisfy most adults, unless you were seriously into the RC hobby. Great truck and worth the price. ... show more
