  • Decent but not memorable
This movie seems like a fairly decent representation of what happened during this very famous drilling disaster. The movie covers about a 24-48 hour period starting just before the disaster as some of the main characters arrive to the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig by helicopter through the point in time where they are rescued from the destroyed rig and transported back to land. Some of these main characters are played by good actors who give an interesting and memorable twist to their performances. It seems like some of the events and actions leading up to the explosion might be slightly condensed from what happened in real life, but you get the feeling that you are getting the basics of the story. Much of the story line revolves around the company cutting corners to make up for a project that is behind schedule. The sets looks fairly convincing and even though the action happens quickly when the movie gets to the part about the explosion, it is fairly gripping. There is also a secondary setting which is the service ship that was holding station right off the platform and which helped with the rescue. In spite of the professional production and good acting in this movie, I kind of felt like it ended up being less exciting than some movies. It had sort of a documentary feel to it in the sense that there wasn't really much of a romantic storyline and there wasn't much plot conflict beyond the conflict between the drillers and the petroleum company executives. This is an interesting and worthwhile movie to see, but in my opinion, it's one of those movies you will probably feel OK with seeing once. ... show more

  • Worth your Time and Money
This movie is a true story about one of the worse oil disasters in our history. This company's executives, blinded by the company's financial goals did not consider THIS particular well nor the information provided by their own employees working on that rig. Kurt Russell and Mark Wahlberg did great jobs portraying characters devoted to their families, jobs, and the men they worked with-very brave. Another equipment worker left his place in line to the life boats to climb into a crane and move it to support the rig. He lost his life when he fell trying to exit the cab. I don't remember his name but his bravery is worth remembering. I believe this movie teaches lessons that these executives should have learned many years prior to this occurrence. I hope you will watch it. ... show more
