  • Slow start but well worth the effort
I pre-ordered the original game and put it down after a short period playing it. Decided to force myself to try it again when the Director's Cut came out. I'm glad I did. The main problem people have is exactly this. We're so used to immediate pay off in everything we do, games included. I've had friends tell me if a game doesn't hook them in 15 minutes, they're done. It takes hours to get into this game. Patience is truly a virtue. This game has a very long prologue which also acts as a tutorial of sorts. The story is weird but really can make you think. The gameplay is fun...more than a walking simulator. It can creep you out, make you care, make you cringe. To be honest, you have to persevere through some not so good things to find the gem underneath. There are fails in the game, ultra long cutscene narratives and other things that I've never wanted to see in a game...involving grenades made from bodily excretions. There are a lot of repetitive NPC dialogues and inconsistent ways to skip these things. The game is a fetch quest but with true consequences. Your inventory matters unlike some games where you can carry a ton of stuff that is never visible and may at worst slow you down. Online play is amazing. You never see other players but you experience their impact and this is a lot of fun. I think the game is a must buy but only if you're willing to give it a chance. ... show more

  • Most Unique Open World Game As Of 11/28/22
I almost exclusively play open world games and this one made me hesitant at first. Heck. It still makes me hesitant 35 hours in, but I can’t put it down. Let me see if I can explain why. It’s simple and complex at the same time. One negative is that it’s very emo. One positive is that it is very emo. It’s strange and also familiar. It mocks and also celebrates so many deep social concepts, yet it eludes description. Its relaxing and riddled with anxiety. The main character is fascinatingly boring, yet endlessly interesting. It’s challenging and easy. It’s slow and then suddenly fast. It’s also one of the most beautiful and stark worlds ever created. It’s just plain nice to look at. It’s too soon and too late. Did that help? I went into this game late and luckily with almost zero knowledge of what to expect. Now that I have played it, I know why so many have struggled to put it into a box. It truly is genre melting and very hard to succinctly explain beyond this guy walks around and delivers packages in a post-apocalyptic USA. It’s so much more than that though…and it is just that. It has to be played. Once you’ve done so, you’ll likely either love it or hate it. A third option is you’ll enter into an abusive relationship with it where you want to hate it, then it does something beautiful. Rinse. Repeat. That’s where I am now. Enjoy! ... show more

  • I never thought being a delivery man could be so addicting
If you are already a fan of Hideo Kojima or you just enjoy horror and an intricate story, this game is probably for you. This game is way too fun for what it is. You are essentially a delivery guy in a post apocalyptic world, but there are challenges to getting packages from one location to the next and each player is going to tackle these problems differently. You may think this game is not for you, but I thought the same thing years ago when it came out and I was shocked at just how stupid fun this game really is. I would definitely consider try this game out. ... show more

  • not what i was expecting at all...
just beat this game today. i have mixed feelings about it honestly. some days i really enjoyed it and others i was frustrated, bored, and could not wait to finish it already. some times it was a lot of fun, others it was like a lot of work. even head scratching in some ways. but it's all part of the game itself. from someone who had no concept of what this game was when i purchased it, did not watch any previews or videos before buying it (only glanced a few reviews online) and only bought it because it had norman reedus in it, my first impression right from the start was: THIS GAME IS WEIRD. very, very weird. and, yes, it is true what others have said. this game starts off on the slow side. extremely slow. i almost called it quits and even felt sleepy at times in the beginning during some of the long cutscenes. but the graphics are amazing and the game slowly reeled me in as i began to understand how to play. the story picks after a while and i found myself wanting to see what happens. and even though some of it seemed repetitive i strangely kept coming back for more. maybe because i do not like to give up so easily. although i considered it many times throughout the game honestly. one thing that really surprised me was discovering this is an open world type of game. it's also worth noting this game is like a marathon. it’s not a quick 15 hour play and finish. it took me just under 60 hours, and that was without doing the side missions. only a small handful as they consume lots of time just as the regular missions do. this game seemed like it would never end at times. i understand why there are many negative reviews about it. it's not for everyone. it has very long and complex story with some bizarre and interesting twists. i will say, however, that everyone who gave up on this game and did not finish missed out on the very long and crazy finish🤯 final thoughts: if you are looking for something different, then perhaps give this a try. for me, it’s the definition of something that is not what you may have expected it to be, but very rewarding in a way of when expectation does not meet desire. it's like one of those really long movies that's kind of boring in the beginning, even weird, and gets even weirder as it progresses, leaving you in a little bit of shock in the end. i give it 4 stars overall for all of the time and effort put into the creation and story telling. i can tell a lot of work went into creating this one. but it's more like between 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 stars considering all of the agony i went through in the beginning to get to the twisted ending. the battle scenes kind of make up for it though lol😁 one more thing, i really liked the online connection to other players. i thought that part was pretty cool. cheers! ... show more

  • One of my favorites
Amazing game if you love Kojima games you'll love it

  • What a weird game.
Another Kojima joint, that’s for dang sure. I think at its core it is mainly a delivery sim/stealth action game. You can see some elements of Kojima Productions previous work, but it mainly stays in its own unique lane. Fun? I don’t know. Mostly a bizarre spectacle, both visually and narratively. Check it out on PS Plus if you can. ... show more

  • Better than I Expected
I read mixed reviews but decided to try this game. I ended up really enjoying it, it was a pleasant break from the usual games. Took a couple hours to get into it but when I did I was hooked!
