  • Works good but…
I’ve owned several of these in my lifetime so I am familiar with how it is assembled onto the Skil worm drive saw. That being said, the directions to install this could be very confusing if this is your first. Especially if you’re not aware of the direction of travel of the chain saw blade. This leads into a few issues with this purchase: 1) This unit was sent with the blade backwards. You need to disassemble the tensioner from the bearing housing to reverse this. 2) The tensioner bolt is a 14mm head with a 8x1.25mm thread pitch that’s 12mm long. Why do you need to know this? The 14mm tensioner head is rounded and also over-tightened from the factory. You’ll need a 6 point socket to remove this bolt as a 12 point socket or open end wrench will strip this bolt head. I suggest highly you replace this bolt. 3) The hex head bolts that hold down the bearing housing has plastic washers. Change those too. Once those issues were addressed the saw worked well. Made approximately 110 inches of cuts on 6x DougFir timber and blade is just starting to feel dull. This is acceptable durability. Make sure to oil your blades often and resharpen your blades regularly. Dull blades tear up these units because there’s no auto oiling mechanism. Was it worth the hassle for the $70 savings? Kinda. I did the additional work only because it would take longer for the “other” one to arrive and I needed to use the saw the next day. After the modifications I’ll be keeping this. Hope this review helps. ... show more

  • Very disappointed in this unit
Several things to point out about this piece. I bought it for cutting through a thick slab table for a customer of mine. Issue 1: Packaging inside cardboard box was all damaged and sliced from the chain cutters inside. Everything appeared intact and unharmed so I didn’t worry too much about it. Issue 2: NO instructions and no PDF online for assembly. Had to find a similar unit to figure out installation. Issue 3: the chain on this was installed backward. On a traditional chainsaw, the cutter teeth face downward as the chain cuts away from you. On a circular saw, the blade/arbor spins backward and therefore the chain teeth need to be oriented upward. They were not. After a couple of frustrating attempts at cutting my workpiece and smoking it out I realized the chain was factory installed backward. Took it apart, re-oriented the chain, and it ultimately cut as it was supposed to. Issue 4: despite using appropriate hardware and tightening down, several seconds into use, the arbor bolt CAME OFF. I didn’t see it immediately because I was so focused on keeping my cut line. However I was doing a video for my piece/this product and you can see the bolt come right off and bury in the sawdust. Thankfully it bolts to the arm of the saw as well or it may have been catastrophic. After all this I didn’t even bother with my other cuts, I just took it all off, cleaned and repackaged it for return. Very unhappy with this as it could be a great thing to have in my shop but it seems to be a knock off of the better quality one. Disappointed as I wanted to give a good review for this. Sorry guys, maybe next time. ... show more

  • Worked as expected
Very clever idea. Used it for cutting beams

  • Poor quality/ assembly
Chain was on backward, the bar and drive sprocket don’t line up causing the chain to bind. The gear at the tip of the bar will not turn freely it binds. The mounting bracket will not bolt up to the saw properly keeping the bar from being square with the saws base plate. Very dissspointed!

  • Very handy beam cutter
This beam cutter is absolutely a time saver when it comes to cutting beams. This beam cutter is incredibly well constructed and very sharp. This beam cutter is weighty but, comes with heavy duty bolts to easily secure it to your circular saw and not have any sagging. When setting up the attachment I noticed that the chain was a little loose so I had to adjust it before first use but, once I did it was perfect. This beam cutter cuts right through beams in a single pass. This attachment can do anything from beams to logs to posts. This beam cutter did cut a little slower through 5x5 oak than it did cedar but, that is to be expected. This beam cutter does not hop around which is what allows you to get those perfectly straight lines. Some of my cuts were rough at first but, that is more of me getting used to the attachment and an easy fix. The only downfall to this beam cutter is that it does not come in a case and you need to be careful when storing it as the chain is sharp. All in all this beam cutter is a huge time saver for me and definitely worth the price. I just can't believe it took me so long to get one of these, the time it has saved me and the ease of cutting through certain woods is priceless. I really recommend if you work with wood you have one of these attachments because, the time saved and ease of use makes this a must have. ... show more

  • Difficult to install but worth it hif you need to make accurate cuts on large lumber
This was difficult to install on my Makita 36V saw. It is not a true worm drive but is only worm drive style. Worked great after installing but kind of a pain if you need to switch back and forth between this and a blade. I couldn't dedicate my saw to this so I cut as much as I could at once with it installed. It worked great on 4X6 through 8x8 lumber. Not as clean as a circular saw blade but much straighter than pulling out my old Husqvarna 365 with a 24" bar and trying to make hundreds of cuts look good. ... show more
