Great Bag, Exceptional Design – But Misleading Marketing

I recently purchased the Prolight Wheeled Coffin Surfboard Travel Bag, but after trying it out, I decided to return it because it was too bulky and complicated to use. Compared to that, this bag from Db Journey 7’6 is truly night and day. You can’t talk enough about the effort they’ve put into the design—every detail is thoughtful and well-engineered. However, I need to address an important issue: their marketing. The photos and videos on their website and YouTube are outdated and misleading. Features like the nose and tail pouches, as well as the removable handle, are no longer part of the updated model. When my package arrived in a suspicious Amazon bag, I initially thought I’d received a previously used item or one with missing parts. I emailed Db Journey for clarification, and to their credit, they responded the next day. They explained that the nose and tail pouches were removed based on customer feedback, as many people prefer using a towel or hoodie for protection instead. While I understand the reasoning, their marketing team should update the product descriptions, photos, and videos (especially on Amazon) to avoid confusing consumers. That said, the bag itself is fantastic. When not in use, it’s compact and easy to store, and the overall design and engineering are among the best I’ve seen in a surfboard travel bag. If they fix the marketing, it would make for a much clearer and less confusing customer experience.

No inside pockets as advertised

The bag is nice. I think this is the second generation because there are no zipper pockets in the top or bottom of the bag to be used as extra protection. I'm deciding on return this and buying directly from the company's website. Pictures are deceiving.

great bag but missing nose and tail protector bags featured in photo

all is good but in one photo in the featuring of the bag, also in Jordy smith's YouTube about the bag, there are two long formed black zip up compartment bags that you can fill with a towel or what have you to protect your nose and tail. I did not receive these and can't find where or if you can buy them. very confusing and or misleading in what comes with the bag.

Nice bag for short-boards
Size: 230L Pro
Overall this is a really good bag/coffin for short-boards. My main criteria for bags is good padding and good build quality and this bag is great in that regard with copious padding in the most critical spots and stitching/materials that seem rugged like they will last for years. The padding on the nose and tail section of the bag is well over an inch thick and will definitely help to soften the blows of airport baggage handlers. The internal separators are okay but I would probably add a couple towels between each board as well just for added protection. The internal pocket is large enough for quite a few fins depending on how many boards and fin set-up. The outside of the bag has a lot of nice touches. First off is the amount of handles it has to either pick up, carry or tie down with. The shoulder strap is nicely padded and comfortable and the wheels roll super-smoothly. They'd be great going through an airport and probably be okay going down a central American dirt road as well. Probably not ideal though. One of my favorite aspects is how well the bag folds up and secures into a small space. It rolls up into a carry-on-ish size which is great for storing in between trips. Really, this is all I can ask for in a bag. I will still probably bubble-wrap the boards and add as much extra padding as possible but this bag gives you everything you should need to get the boards there in (hopefully) one piece. One side-note, we rarely travel with 4 boards so I haven't tested the capacity but it should be plenty large if you're going to max it out. You may just not have as much room for extraneous stuff as well.

Gorgeous - Serious - Sturdy. Now I know why they call it a coffin

I'm pretty zen, so it didn't occur to me why they call it a coffin. Once it arrived, it was obvious. You could fit a whole person in here. The bag is made like very high end luggage. It reminds me of the construction of my TravelPro suitcase that cost just about the same amount. I was a little confused at the separator pieces that were included. My bag has two in it. The videos show three separators. If you're packing 3 boards, 2 is enough. For four boards you may need 3 separators. The rib cage construction on this bag appears to be primarily in the bottom foot area. There's a hard piece of plastic under a zipper panel that provides the bottom structure. As far as I can tell the side walls and top/bottom are filled with thick closed cell foam. Everything is stitched perfectly. The protective foam is laid out with seams at exact locations to help the bag fold for storage. If the well thought out folds wasn't enough, there are instructions printed into the fabric of the bag telling you where to start and where to go to make sure you remember how to roll it up when not in use. There's extra room in the bag for more gear, think wetsuit. The clips/buckles for the Hookup system are new to me. They look like the buckles you'd put on load bearing equipment, but they have a spring loaded retainer clip to keep from falling off. This system is going to make you want one of their regular luggage pieces so you can drag the whole system from a single handle. It's hard to imagine a better board bag.
