  • Precise fit....Happy after installation.....
The original factory starter developed some minor noise in my 2007 Honda Ridgeline. I figured it is time to replace it before it may break down. Took 5 days after ordering to arrive. A new metal gasket as well as the metal bracket holding the power line was both INCLUDED that made my job much easier. Very professional. The starter was a precise exact fit. After installation it started right up. The factory starter lasted 11 years and was still working. Hopefully this MADE IN USA starter will not let me down. ... show more

  • Worked great.
2006 Pilot sounded really sluggish when trying to start it. In the cold it would barely start because it would try so hard to crank the car. Swapped the battery, no change. Cleaned up the ground wire, no change. Took the old starter out (remove the battery, take off a few plugs and then take out the 2 bolts, which are hard to see but are there, battery tray doesn’t need to come out), found out it was the original with 230k miles on it. New starter went in easily. Getting the gasket on while installing the starter can be tough. What I did was install the starter fully seated first without the gasket. This allowed me to get the starter teeth moved around and in the right place before trying to mess with the starter and the (included) metal gasket. Once the starter was installed, I pulled the starter out slightly away from the engine and slid the gasket between the starter and the engine block and then moved it around until the starter and gasket both seated together. Trying to seat the starter and the gasket at the same time proved impossible with so little space and no real way to hold onto the gasket, so doing one at a time made life much easier. Car started right up and doesn’t sound sluggish anymore. ... show more

  • Exact replacement and works fine!
My 07 Honda Pilot would not start for me and the symptoms I was seeing seemed like a dead battery. After trying multiple ways to jump the vehicle and charge the battery I realized it was more than that. The dash would light up and I would hear a click but it did not attempt to turn over. I tried tapping the starter but that did not help with starting the car. I purchased this one because the price was quite a bit higher at a local parts store, especially with the core charge. This did come with the metal gasket, but it was a little bent out of shape. I tapped the gasket with a hammer on a flat surface and it took care of the issue of being bent. There was a bit of a struggle getting this part installed, but it wasn't horrible... overall it took about 2 hours to remove the old and install the new. This replacement works great and has not been problematic since getting it installed. ... show more

  • Great replacement starter- 2006 Honda Pilot
My Pilot's starter was sounding sluggish for last few days and then nothing happened one day when I turned the key (battery was recently replaced and had sufficient charge). Luckily, the next day it started, but failed to start once more a few days later. Clearly was time for a replacement before I got stuck somewhere. This replacement starter turns strong and fast, seems high quality. I bench tested before installation just to be on safe side. Replacement was challenging, a knuckle buster. A flex head ratchet and some penetrating oil helped remove the stubborn old bolts. Take your time undoing the smaller wire clips, they are fragile. Watch out for old gasket, I did not receive a replacement one, so reused the old one, which was aluminum. Be careful hand threading the bolts back in, before torquing down with socket ratchet. Spun right up and definitely sounds more powerful/faster than the one I replaced (Honda original, 13 years old). Time will tell, but I do recommend this starter! If you are mechanically inclined, on this vehicle, replacement it can be completed in 1-2 hours, from top of engine, without vehicle lift, nor pneumatic tools, needed. ... show more

  • Hard starts
Got this for our 2008 Honda Pilot after the original starter died at 170k miles. Until its sudden death, the original starter gave us no reason to worry. It started strong every time. This replacement struggles with the start pretty regularly and we have to hold it for an extended period of time for the start to complete. Because of this I put in a support ticket with DB Electric and never heard back. I then decided to order a replacement to see if it would do better. The replacement was clearly used and had someone else's info in the box. Great quality control. I returned that one and Amazon also refunded me for the first order while telling me to keep the starter. So I still have this in the Pilot but will probably look to replace it with a different brand soon for peace of mind. ... show more

  • Great replacement starter for DIY folks
A winter or two ago, I noticed my remote starter was taking multiple attempts to start my 2006 Honda Ridgeline. I chalked it up to being very cold. Turns out it was the starter wearing out. One day last summer, I tried to start it and there was nothing. No clicking, no dimming of the lights, just silence. Of course, the first thing I thought anyway was to jump it, but that wasn't it. Some fuse-checking and other troubleshooting later, I decided it was the starter. It made sense, as in retrospect I had noticed the starter becoming "sluggish." Thanks to Prime and to cool dudes who document their car repairs, I was back up and running only a couple days later. Now my remote start works on the first try. Yay internet! Bottom line, if you're having trouble with the starter on your 2006-08 Ridgeline, as long as you have tools and you're somewhat capable/handy, this a a totally doable DIY repair. Search the internet for a blog called "Experiences with my car" from March 30 2010. There are step-by-step instructions with excellent photos to guide you through the replacement. The Honda dealership wanted $460-550, depending on choice of OEM or remanufactured starter. I saved myself almost $400 and it only took about 2 hours. You can do it, too! Good luck! ... show more

  • Very affordable starter for my 2008 Honda Pilot
I was a bit reluctant to buy this starter for my 2008 Honda Pilot VP. I took a chance on it based on every review being 5 stars and all verified purchases. I installed it as soon as I received it and it works exactly as it should. The price point was very affordable and fit in place just like the original starter, plus there’s no headache with the core return. So far it’s working as it should, I’ll update this review if that changes. ... show more
