Description

With the Alpha A550 and A500, Sony has combined the high-quality attributes of more expensive and advanced digital SLR cameras with the compact body and ease of use that the Alpha models are known for. David Busch's Sony Alpha DSLR-A550/A500 Guide to Digital Photography shows discriminating photography students how to take outstanding pictures with these sophisticated and cutting-edge cameras that feature 12 to 14 megapixels of resolution, blazing fast automatic focus, and the real-time preview system Live View . Students will learn how, when, and, most importantly, why to use all the cool features and functions of their camera to take eye-popping photographs. Introductory chapters will help them get comfortable with the basics of their camera before they dive right into exploring creative ways to apply the Sony Alpha's exposure modes, focus controls, and electronic flash options. Compatible with both the A550 and the A500, this book is chock full of hands-on tips for choosing lenses, flash units, and software products to use with your new camera. • David Busch's Sony Alpha DSLR-A550/A500 Guide to Digital Photography
I am a new to digital user. My last camera was a Minolta Maxxum 5000i, which I have owned of about 35/40 years. One reason I purchase the new Sony was because my other two Minolta lens would work on the new Sony aDSLR-500 body, thinking I would be saving money. And they did work, but they were 40 years behind the digital technology. Santa did bring me a new lens for Christmas, and all is well. I never did learn how to manually use my old camera, so I am starting out from scratch. I have not read this book from cover to cover yet, but so far it has been a great experience. The illustrations are clear and easy to see, and do. David goes through it all, step by step in plain, easy to understand language. I have a series of three other `How to shoot great photos" books that are very good, but the author spent too much time trying to add humor. I like a straight forward, get it done, and let me go shoot some photos type of reading. This book does just that. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a Sony camera, and I would think his other books would be as good. ... show more

  • The Book Sony Should Pack with Each Camera!!
After purchasing two of David's books (for the Sony Alpha 350 and now the Alpha 550), I am a real fan. These are truly the books that should have been included with each Sony camera by the manufacturer. David's straight-forward explanation of EVERY aspect of the camera makes it possible to use all of the features included in these fantastic cameras (the entire Alpha line). To evaluate my opinion, of course, you need to know that I've been shooting seriously for over 40 years, starting with a Kodak, moving on to Minolta, and now to the Sony Alpha series. I shoot semi-professionally, participating in several serious camera clubs in the Kansas City area, and have won awards for some of my fine art black and white work. I cannot recommend the books David creates highly enough. They are simply wonderful. I give copies of David's guides to friends who have gotten a new camera and aren't sure how to get the most out of it. ... show more

  • A must read for Sony A500/A550 owners!
[[ASIN:1435458303 David Busch's Sony Alpha DSLR-A550/A500 Guide to Digital Photography] Having progressed from a Canon film SLR camera, to a Sony digital camera when they were first introduced, to the Sony A550 I know from a cursory read of the manual I needed much more to learn how to use this camera to its full advantages. David Busch's book fits the bill perfectly!! It explains the features, menus, and scene modes and breaks them down in easily digestible bites that are fun to read. It is very informative without taking the reader into realms of information overkill that is often done with some manuals. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that owns either camera, or someone that just wants to take better digital pictures. Great job David! ... show more

  • NOT what I expected.
I very seldom leave long reviews but in this case I am going to make a exception. I purchased this after reading the Amazon reviews but was hesitant considering the $29.99 price tag. I soon discovered I had made a mistake. About half of this book is about the A500/550 and the rest is about photography. I expected more of it to be as the title indicated. I am not a professional photographer but I am experienced and do have a grasp about F stops, depth of field, etc. If I wanted to learn more I would have bought a book on photography. I will say that it is a nice book, well make, and what there is about the A500/550 is clear. There is just too much stuff not related to the camera itself. ... show more

  • The is the second book I have bought from David Busch.
This is the second book I have bought by David Busch. The first was on the Sony a350. Both books have really explained the camera in a much more readable and understandable way than the manuals do. The information in both books is something that can be used for most all cameras because it goes into Digital photography in an in-depth level that is easy to understand. Thank you David! ... show more
