  • Another excellent camera guide
This is the third guide I have purchased written by David Busch. They are all very well written and explain things so well, including this one. They are written in a easy to read style. I find his books compliment the courses given by John Greengo (that you can stream or download) explaining how to use this camera (and others). I did note one reviewer commented on some of the descriptions that included brand names. I did not find this to be a problem because it was nice to know what he recommends for certain accessories for this camera. It was not excessive and did not interfere with understanding and learning about the camera. The only error I noted was the book mentioned panoramas which this camera does not take. Great book! Highly recommended. ... show more

  • An excellent book to help understand how to best use the a7IV.
I've been a film-based SLR camera user for over 30 years and feel comfortable behind a camera. But when I finally broke down and got a serious digital camera, I realized it wasn't just a matter of having a digital sensor. My Sony a7IV is literally a little computer that has a high quality image sensor attached. And it's much more complicated than any 35mm film camera I've used, if I want to use it to its potential. I've watched several videos of "experts" telling me what settings to use on the camera and have read several websites about how to use it. Needless to say, different people often don't agree on what settings are best. This book is an excellent overview on how the camera works and what the different settings do. This allowed me to finally understand things like what and how the different focus zones operate; rather than just tell me which one to use, the book helped me make my own choice as to which zone is best for a particular situation. Same with all the light metering options- now I feel comfortable choosing one that is actually beneficial for the photo I'm trying to capture. The reality is this camera is much more adjustable than it initially appears. I now really can appreciate how truly wonderful this camera is, thanks to the insightful information in this book. And I can now set up the various buttons to work for what's best for my particular shooting style. Is this the best book to buy for understanding the Sony a7IV? I don't know. But I do know that it is an excellent and helpful book, far better than any of the videos and websites I've come across for this camera. Definitely a good purchase if you own this camera. If you want to understand the camera rather than just be told what settings to use, go buy this book! ... show more

  • Good information and easy to read and follow
It's nice to have a real guideline for how to use this camera. The cameras never come with enough information on how to use every feature. The author makes it interesting and easy to read and follow.

  • The Best General Sony Guide I Have Found
A book like this seems mandatory if you’re going to master a complex digital camera like the a7 IV, because the online manual offered by Sony is pretty rudimentary. Truth is, I wish this guide offered even more in the areas of flash photography and video; those chapters left me with a lot of unanswered questions. ... show more

  • Invaluable reference for the Sony A74
Best reference available for the Sony A74. Well written, great photos.

  • Comprehensive but organized in a way to quickly find a specific topic
The Sony Alpha A7 IV is an amazing versatile camera with an overwhelmingly abundant number of features that quickly leads to decision overload when learning to use the camera. David Busch's book overcomes most of the overload with a combination of concise instructions organized in a way that it is easy to find the specific topic. I bought the camera to raise my bird photography game and learning how to optimize the camera setup to capture birds on the ground, on the branch, or on the wing was immediately eased using this book. It is a comprehensive guide. Even as a paperback, it is too long and heavy to carry in my camera bag, but I keep it on my desk or in my car when in the field. I would say it is exactly the reference I wanted. ... show more

  • Excellent
Very useful book. It goes further than just teaching you about the camera itself, but also important tips about general photography.
