Description

Legendary among hikers and backpackers worldwide. The USA-made Mountain Light hiking boot is renowned for its unmatched quality, durability and support. Our full-grain leather is thoroughly tested for strength and durability before being accepted. Gore-Tex lining provides waterproof protection that allows your feet to breathe. The molded PU Danner Airthotic footbed features an instep that cups the heel and supports the arch of the foot, with perforations to provide additional air circulation. The Vibram Kletterlift outsole offers lightweight comfort and superb grip on a variety of terrains. The outsole is secured to the upper using Danner’s legendary stitchdown construction, which provides a wider platform and a longer-lasting sole, which can be recrafted, because even the best boots wear down after years of hard use.

  • Worst fitting Shoe I ever owned
Size: 10 Color: Brown
My wife and I both bought a pair to hike in. We tried them several times but could not get them broken in. The leather around the ankle is soo stiff that it rubs right in to the tendon on the back of the heel. Both my wife and I had the same problem in the same place. The boot is tough and extremely well made, just a very bad fit for us both. Combined, we lost $500 in these shoes since we simply cannot wear them at all and cannot return them after wearing them so much. Lesson: If shoes do not fit well out of the box, return them immediately. I do own Danner boots and have some great ones, but these should be redesigned. ... show more

  • Worth the Price
Size: 10 Color: Brown
it is not like I have a ton of money, but I am one of those guys who will spend more on a quality product that is going to last. I had my eye on the Danner Mountain Light II's for a few years, but I could just never pull the trigger due to the cost. So I would but a pair of boots for a hundred some odd dollars that I would wear from about September until May and then retire. It's not that I am overly hard on my boots, but I probably wear them every day. I work from home as a consultant, so I am mostly sitting at a desk all day, but I am still fairly active and enjoy the outdoors, woodcrafting, working on my Jeep etc. I don't like to think about if something is going to hold up to the basic day to day living that I do, I just expect it to do so. I know that it has only been a few months, but I really wish that I had bought these Danner's long ago. I know some people have had issues with breaking them in, but I really did not have any break in issues. After I wore them around for a few days I noticed the left boot digging in very slighly to my achilies heel. It was not enough to cause any real pain and after about two weeks of just wearing them around the house and around town the discomfort was gone. I believe the boots are fairly broken in now after a few months. The do not feel too heavy to me on my feet and they truly feel like putting my feet into a soft comfortable glove. I do use the plastic heel orthotics that came with the boots and they seem to work very well...at least for me. They look good with jeans and khaki's and I have gotten lots of compliments on them. I am looking forward to many years of living with my Danner's and believe in the long run this investment will pay off as I do not expect to have to buy a pair of boots every fall again. If you are on the fence as I was and you can afford to purchase them I very highly doubt that you will regret it. You will just regret not doing it sooner. ... show more

  • Like them so far
Size: 10 Color: Brown
Have been wearing them for about two weeks now. First impressions still very good (would recommend), but some reservations still pending. FIT: Fits true to size. I wear a 10 in almost all shoes with a couple exceptions (10.5 in a couple sneakers, 9.5 in another pair of boots), and these in 10D fit as expected. About the same as a pair of 10D Allen Edmonds dress shoes I have. GENERAL IMPRESSIONS: High quality leather. Cushy around the foot, thick material. Definitely a bulkier boot size-wise, but this can be seen from the photos. Vibram sole is large (gives me about an extra 2 inches of height) but fairly soft. Tread allows me to be confident on ice and in snow and slush (a lot here) and keeps my feet completely dry. The 'open' eyelets won't keep laces tight while you're lacing them up. You need to hold them tight while tying. May be frustrating for some, but has the bonus of being easy to take off as they instantly release when untied. Look rugged but nice enough that i've worn them to the office. They are warm if you are looking for a winter boot (Fine in -20C for me). RESERVATIONS: 1) The overlapping material of the tongue can sometimes bundle up uncomfortably if you don't pay attention to it while lacing. The tongue is an "S" of material if you would take a cross section of the boot, where the ends of the S meet at the eyelets (You can't really see this from the photos, but it's what makes that 'flap'). I don't completely understand the benefits of doing this and it makes for a lot of extra material that can uncomfortably bundle up on top of your foot. However, as long as I pay attention while lacing it isn't a problem, and some break in could alleviate the problem. It does create some cushion and insulation on the foot. 2) The ankle height is definitely lower than expected, barely runs higher than my ankle. Hasn't been a problem as I've just used them for winter, however it might be an issue in the summer when I start hiking. I'll have to come back to this one. 3) The top of the boot that wraps around your ankle is corded and hard so that it does uncomfortably dig into your achilles tendon. This is exacerbated by the lower ankle, because it really does press into the worst part possible. It hasn't been an issue with regular walking, but you really feel it if you point your foot downwards. This could be a problem on scrambles that require that motion. I'll see if break in fixes it. If it doesn't, it's a deal breaker. CONCLUSION: I have been happy enough with the boot to keep it. It is sturdy, warm and generally comfortable for winter and looks really good (I've had compliments). I paid $200, but may have returned if I had paid $310. If the 3 things I noted are found to be non-issues with more use I think I'd give it a 5. Without the achilles issue, a 4. For now I have to give it a 3 until it proves itself as a good hiker and not just a good looking hiker-styled winter boot. ... show more

  • Narrow and leather "peels'
Size: 10 Color: Brown
Boots weren't just narrow. They were REALLY narrow. The leather around the ankle started to "peel" where the laces rub against it as you tighten it down. It not like the leather actually peels off, but that this weird "finish" comes off. Hard to describe. If they fit you, or if you have a narrow forefoot, they could be really awesome solid lifelong boots. Just don't fit me. ... show more
