Description

Legendary among hikers and backpackers worldwide. The USA-made Mountain Light hiking boot is renowned for its unmatched quality, durability and support. Our full-grain leather is thoroughly tested for strength and durability before being accepted. Gore-Tex lining provides waterproof protection that allows your feet to breathe. The molded PU Danner Airthotic footbed features an instep that cups the heel and supports the arch of the foot, with perforations to provide additional air circulation. The Vibram Kletterlift outsole offers lightweight comfort and superb grip on a variety of terrains. The outsole is secured to the upper using Danner’s legendary stitchdown construction, which provides a wider platform and a longer-lasting sole, which can be recrafted, because even the best boots wear down after years of hard use.

  • Exactly what I expected.
After hearing a few 'word of mouth' reviews from friends, I decided to look into Danner to see if I would pay this much for a pair of boots. Suffice it to say, I am glad that I did. Taking the boots out of the box I immediately noticed the fine workmanship and attention to detail. The leather used in the upper feels like what good leather should feel like. I am still getting used to the fact that the tongue comes over the side instead of up the middle. I don't know if other shoes/boots do this, but I certainly find it unique and adds to the overall comfort. Adding to that comfort are the "airthotic" inserts that Danner includes. At first I chose to leave them out, but after deciding to leave them in for a day, I found that they're comfortable enough to leave in. I've been wearing them around regularly but haven't done any serious hiking yet. I'll update after that. Until then, buy these boots. They feel good, every one of their components are of the utmost quality, and the stitch-down construction is pretty freaking cool. ... show more

  • They fit like a pair of gloves...love em, but
These are terrific boots and built like a tank. They felt so great I was anxious to wear them on a quick two mile hike but soon found that I was experiencing some pain on my Achilles tendon exactly at the top rear of the boot on each foot. When I got back home I realized that, while not a blister, I had worn off the skin in that area on both feet. Mind you, I had not yet used any Danner boot dressing to soften then up. Importantly, the actual foot area had no problems whatsoever. It was merely that one area at the very top rear of the boot. I called Danner and they said that it is a common problem until they are full broken in. I would recommend conditioning the boot (especially that top heel area) and perhaps wearing moleskin on that area (or thicker socks) as they get broken in. Make no mistake, these are fantastic boots and I absolutely love them! ... show more

  • Worst fitting Shoe I ever owned
My wife and I both bought a pair to hike in. We tried them several times but could not get them broken in. The leather around the ankle is soo stiff that it rubs right in to the tendon on the back of the heel. Both my wife and I had the same problem in the same place. The boot is tough and extremely well made, just a very bad fit for us both. Combined, we lost $500 in these shoes since we simply cannot wear them at all and cannot return them after wearing them so much. Lesson: If shoes do not fit well out of the box, return them immediately. I do own Danner boots and have some great ones, but these should be redesigned. ... show more

  • Narrow and leather "peels'
Boots weren't just narrow. They were REALLY narrow. The leather around the ankle started to "peel" where the laces rub against it as you tighten it down. It not like the leather actually peels off, but that this weird "finish" comes off. Hard to describe. If they fit you, or if you have a narrow forefoot, they could be really awesome solid lifelong boots. Just don't fit me. ... show more

  • Good Boots: Reasonable Review Here
I love Danner boots, but have never gotten hiking boots made by them. So far I am happy and I look forward to wearing them on a long backpacking trip. First of all, I personally feel that the boots fit well and that the narrow toe thing (which some people are complaining about) is quite common for hiking boots like this. You don't want your foot moving around when you head down hill. Yet my feet swell and after hiking for a long time this can be a problem. As a result, I purchased a half size larger (I usually do and this is nothing specific to Danner). With large socks and swollen feet they feel good. Also, keep in mind that they are "light" boots and so they do't have that thick, heavy feeling (in a good way) of other boots. Where I noticed this most was around the ankle. Newer (fancy) hiking boots have layers upon layers around the ankle so they wrap well and fit perfectly. These boots fit ok around the ankle. I suspect they will be fine, but they're not exemplary. It's still not enough for me to return them. Also, I really like the vibram soles. They feel flat and stable, and my foot seems to roll well with each step. Lastly, they're real boots, so you will have to break them in. ... show more
