This is the first kids' backpack that fits properly on my daughter's back without being overly floppy and low on her back. The shoulder straps are wide and thick and the stitching hasn't frayed although she is caring of her favorite things. The backpack is higher on her back and shoulders compared to her old backpack. In terms of storage, it carries her (fairly) bulky Chromebook in a pocket, notebooks and folders, and her water bottle and could carry more, but she physically wouldn't be able to lift it so there's no real point in testing it filled up. I got this for my son who is in 3rd grade. It is cute and seems durable. I like the pockets and style of it but I would say it is small. I tried to determine this before ordering and couldn't tell for sure and passed up the even smaller version. If I had seen it in person I probably wouldn't have bought it for a 3rd grader it is more Kinder size but we will make it work since he is happy and he usually doesn't have too much stuff to carry back and forth to school. ... show more

Definitely a well made backpack. However, there is no sunglasses pocket, no double big zippered area, no organization pockets, and the insulation pocket is horrible compared to their larger backpacks. With all that being said, it is very well made, but nothing what it is advertised to be! We love Dakine backpacks and this one is great quality, as always. Smooth zippers, thick material, the bear print is awesome. I was very surprised at how little this holds, however. I compared lots of backpacks and their dimensions & liter-based capacities and for whatever reason, this thing holds much less than a backpack with the same dimensions from Walmart. Maybe the padding is that much thicker? Takes up more room? I don't know, but my fifth grader could not fit a binder inside unless there was nothing else in the bag.
