  • Great little upgrade
Size: ER16 Color: 500w Er16 Kit
I recently purchased the Daedalus CNC Brushless Spindle Motor Kit, 500w, and I have been absolutely thrilled with its performance. This kit has taken my CNC projects to a whole new level, and I couldn't be happier with the results. First and foremost, the brushless spindle motor in this kit is a powerhouse. With a rating of 500 watts, it delivers ample power for a wide range of machining tasks. Whether I'm cutting, engraving, or milling, this motor effortlessly handles the workload, providing consistent and reliable performance. One of the standout features of this kit is its precision. The spindle motor operates with remarkable accuracy, allowing me to achieve intricate details and tight tolerances in my projects. This level of precision is crucial for producing high-quality work, and the Daedalus spindle motor excels in this regard. I also appreciate the quiet operation of this motor. Despite its impressive power, it runs surprisingly quietly, which is a significant improvement over some other motors I've used in the past. This reduced noise level creates a more pleasant working environment and allows me to concentrate on my projects without distraction. The kit's build quality is top-notch. Both the motor and the accompanying components feel solid and well-constructed. It's clear that Daedalus has put a lot of attention into the design and manufacturing of this kit, ensuring its durability and longevity. I've put it through some demanding tasks, and it has held up beautifully. Installation was relatively straightforward, and the included instructions were clear and helpful. Even if you're not an experienced CNC enthusiast, you should be able to set up this kit with ease. In terms of value, I consider this kit to be an excellent investment. It provides a significant boost in performance and precision for a reasonable price, making it a cost-effective choice for anyone looking to upgrade their CNC machine. In summary, the Daedalus CNC Brushless Spindle Motor Kit, 500w, has exceeded my expectations in every way. Its power, precision, quiet operation, build quality, and overall value make it a standout product in the world of CNC machining. Whether you're a professional or a hobbyist, if you're looking to enhance your CNC capabilities, I highly recommend considering this kit. It has earned its five-star rating, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. ... show more

  • So Quiet and Powerful
Size: ER11 Color: 500w Er11 Kit
Swapped this from an 80w spindle... No machine should come with less than a 500w LOL Everything wired up easily to my current setup of a TTC450 Pro. I'm easily cutting detailed material at 400in/min with a 2.5mm 2 flute flat endmill bit, and I think from the sound is still pretty slow. I would like to see this setup come standard with an enclosure, but that's what 3D printing is for LOL. Spindle is rated for 12k RPM, hasn't been an issue with any hardwood or acrylic for me. Definitely happy with this! ... show more

  • so-so
Size: ER11 Color: 600w Er11 Kit
Cons: Hasn't once hit 9000rpm, even at full blast. Hovers around 8800ish, verified by an optical tachometer. Power supply provided is cheap with an always-on fan rather than thermostat control -- not that great for dusty environments, fan bearings have begun to fail. Has a resonance for me (with any cutter) at 8400, so must avoid that RPM. Pros: has been reliable for years 2 years of intermittent cutting. Doesn't generally exceed 50c. Cheap. Easy to setup. ... show more

  • Good motor and controller, suspect accesories
Size: ER16 Color: 600w Er16 Kit
Motors is quiet and runout seems great. However, it shipped with a faulty potentiometer. This led to all kinds of headaches getting it running, as it worked intermittently and liked to change RPM on its own. I spent more opportunity cost in my time diagnosing this issue than I paid for the motor kit, which is frustrating. Overall however the kit is a good value. I suspect the cheap/shoddy potentiometer could be responsible for others' issues, so if you have a 10k potentiometer sitting around I'd plan to replace this one immediately. ... show more

  • Awesome spindle for small endmill aluminum milling
Size: ER11 Color: 600w Er11 Kit
Does what it describes and is overall a really effective spindle for milling aluminum on a desktop diy cnc setup. Just note that to make any use of it at all, you need a much much stiffer frame than the hobby level desktop cnc machines you can buy for <$2k like the 3018, 3020, and 3040's. This motor is lower rpm but much higher torque than the usual super high rpm and very low torque DC motors those machines are designed for. And because torque directly translates to milling force on the machine you need something quite stiff to take the load and not just bounce off the part. If you're designing your own machine make sure it has all linear ball bearing guide rails with 2 rails per axis and 2 blocks per rail. But the benefit of the high torque is larger chips and much less heat generation in the part. On my custom built machine with all linear rails and ball screws and a 1/8" endmill on aluminum I can hit 1.5mm DOC, 1.3mm WOC, and ~500mm/min feedrate (climb cut) without much issue which means it can remove quite a serious amount of material pretty quick. On another note, the spindle is not directly compatible with a PWM signal and requires a PWM to voltage converter (~$10 on amazon) and then it works great. This means it can be used with virtually any CNC controller with just a bit of wiring. If you're like me and you want to use the motor to have a built in probe then this is a fairly good option as well. The two large shiny aluminum parts on the motor are nicely electrically connected to the rotor and thus the endmill so I drilled and tapped a tiny hole in the upper aluminum part to ground a probe wire. However, the body is also conductive when compressed in the clamps so I added a super thin layer of plastic tape between the black motor body and the clamp housings to insulate it and that works great, just needed to chamfer the clamp edges a bit. I'm able to achieve between ~330 to 9700 rpm with this motor. The rpm gets higher on the high end as it heats up which is sorta annoying so initially it only gets to ~9200 but once it warms up it can hit higher. Finally, just a note that the air intake at the top is pretty good at sucking in dust and depositing it deep inside the motor so if you're planning to cut dusty things like wood I'd recommend adding some sort of filter to the top intake. ... show more
