Top Amazon Reviews

  • Model 300 offers several features typical of higher-end violins at a surprisingly affordable cost.
Size: Full Size - 4/4 Violin
This violin offers remarkable performance for its category, especially due to the care given to structural elements that directly influence playability. The fingerboard height is perfectly calibrated, allowing for clear and stable fingering, which favors precise intonation even in fast passages or high positions. Likewise, the bridge height provides a balanced level of tension on the strings, avoiding unnecessary effort and facilitating comfortable bow control. The overall weight of the instrument is light (typical of high-end instruments). Although the varnish tone on the top plate tends to obscure the natural wood grain, this aesthetic detail does not affect the instrument’s functionality. However, the absence of the characteristic “tiger stripe” pattern on the curved parts does indicate wood of a lower acoustic grade, which is reflected in a somewhat more contained resonance compared to high-end violins. A notable aspect is the ease with which vibrato can be executed on all strings from the fourth to the tenth position, a quality usually found in high-end violins. This comfortable response from the neck and fingerboard allows for controlled, expressive, and even vibrato, even for less experienced hands. Regarding sound, the instrument offers a fair tone for its price range, with a somewhat more striking character on the first and second strings, which adds brightness and presence to melodies and solo passages. The included bows stand out for their appropriate weight and the quality of their hair, made from Mongolian horsehair. Thanks to this, the friction on the strings produces minimal noise, allowing for clean articulation and immediate response in techniques such as détaché, spiccato, or legato. This is also a plus, in contrast to other manufacturers with options in the same price range. The combination of all these elements makes the different bowing techniques sound clear, something that is difficult to achieve in generic mass-produced instruments. The case is solid and provides complete protection for both the instrument and its accessories, an essential point to ensure its durability. This model is especially suitable for beginners who have the guidance of a professional tutor, as it allows for solid progress from an initial level up to an intermediate level, equivalent to books 1 to 7 of the Suzuki method. For a professional violinist accustomed to instruments with high sonority, clarity, and projection, models 500 and above might be more satisfactory; however, in an emergency, this model 300 would respond with dignity and leave the performer in a good position. For my immediate purposes—resuming the instrument at a professional level after last playing 20 years ago in philharmonic and chamber orchestras of baroque music—I know that the DZ Strad 300 will fully serve its purpose. It is also known that, with regular use, the instrument’s sound will improve in a few months and, over the years, this model tends to appreciate in value. I am satisfied with this purchase. Overall, I insist, the price is especially advantageous considering the benefits it offers. Many of these features are typical of higher-end violins, but in this model, they are available at a surprisingly affordable cost. ... show more
