  • Rich tone, beautiful bow
Size: 1/4 - Size
Bought this for my daughter as she is now taking private lessons and learning to play the violin in earnest. Love how this set comes with a shoulder rest that fits the violin perfectly. Came with rosin, but no extra strings. We had previously purchased a Mendini violin in 1/32 size when she was really little, and the sound of this DZ Strad is much superior by far. Very rich tone, even though the body is still a tiny 1/4 size. The violin varnish had a few nicks and imperfections in it, but the tone is really good quality. The violin bow is absolutely beautiful. The frog slide and screw features gorgeous mother of pearl, and the side of the frog is not your usual Parisian eye but a very unique symbol. Looks very high-end. The customer service was excellent and we were sent a replacement because the first bow was defective. Definitely will be sticking to the DZ Strad and this seller as we outgrow and need new sizes going forward because we know we can buy in confidence and get good quality and service. ... show more

  • Excellent
Size: 4/4 - Full Size
I am not a musician, and was hoping the DZ Strand violin was a good purchase. I bought it for my grandson who had been playing the violin for 8 years and only had rummage sale violins. I was told by his music teacher it was a good purchase with good quality sound. I am very pleased.

Projects like a high end soloist violin, surprisingly loud. If you're new, you'll want ear plugs or a mute. Very clear sound. Bridge was about 2mm high on the G and 1mm high on the E. Perhaps they leave action high so sound post doesn't fall during shipping as that should provide more tension. Finish is good. It's a bit twangy as far as sound goes, not as warm as I'd like, but that can be tamed. Wood looks surprisingly high quality for price, but I don't like the plate graduation. Something isn't exactly right here. I would actually label it as more on an intermediate instrument as I think a beginner instrument should be warm and not project as much. This is louder than some custom shop soloist violins I've played (which would be fine if it were warm, but its kind of piercingly clear). Strings feel like preludes. Perfectly fine strings to set it up with, but you'll want to swap them eventually. Bow is adequate for a beginner, but thats the first thing someone should swap if they are serious about playing, then upgrade the strings. Only docking one point for the high bridge. I was able to fix mine with about an hour of filing and fitting, but I'm not sure if some little kid or parent would be. Maybe take it to luthier and have them set it up, you'll still come out cheaper than buying a new music store so I still recommend the purchase despite the flaw. Online setups are garbage. Had to file the nut, had to adjust sound post, had to file the bridge. The violin itself is fine though. If you're new to violin, know peg slipping is normal and tuning is basically a skill you develop. Also know not varnishing neck is completely normal because it makes shifting positions easier (saw other people confused about that in another review). As for bridge, if you have a cheap placeholder bridge, you can put that in its place to maintain tension, then file the current bridge and put it back in its place, then you won't have to worry about sound post falling or changing strings. If you upgrade to synthetic strings, you'll find resonance issues, which is to be expected in a beginner instrument. TLDR: Look into the violins from Yitamusic instead. You can get an MV7000 violin which is leaps and bounds above this one for not much more. ... show more

  • Amazing sound quality.
Size: 1/4 - Size
I got this violin about a week ago, and I love it! I bought a cheeper violin a year ago as a beginner, and I can definitely tell the sound quality is 10 times better. I also like the little designs on the frog of the bow and the end screw. Very pleased with this violin!

  • Nice violin for Middle school Nice violin for Middle school
Size: 4/4 - Full Size
This is our 2nd violin with the same brand. It is a good violin. I only rated 3 stars because the description says : Set up with Wittner-style composite tailpiece with four built-in fine tuners. There's only 1 fine tuner. The 3 fine tuners are missing and the tail piece looks different. I'm returning the item and request for replacement. I will update my review once I receive the replacement next week. Update 9/9/24: 4 stars for imperfection. I received the replacement today. It's the right tailpiece. There's a small imperfection, otherwise everything looks good like the one we got last year. ... show more

  • is very pleased with this "little fiddle"
Size: 1/4 - Size
I bought this for my daughter as her first violin, having no experience myself, I chose by reviews and cost. Her instructor, who teaches the Suzuki method, is very pleased with this "little fiddle". She said it has a very pleasant sound and is quite impressed with the bow.
