In cosmetics, D-Panthenol is widely recognized as a humectant ingredient that helps provide hydration support to the skin and may assist in soothing the feeling of discomfort, contributing to a more comfortable, smoother skin feel. What is the recommended usage percentage? The suggested final concentration in formulations is 1%-5%. Given this is a 75% concentrate, please calculate and dilute accordingly. Example: to achieve a 5% final concentration, this ingredient should constitute about 6.7% of your formula. How do I add it to my formula? This product is water-soluble. It is recommended to add it during the cooling phase (below 40°C) after oil-water emulsification, with thorough mixing. Avoid prolonged exposure to high heat. Any precautions before use? I look forward to seeing if this helps strengthen my nails. It definitely doesn’t leave a greasy feel- despite the bottle being sealed in shrink-wrapped plastic, it leaked and felt sticky when I removed it from the box. So far, I’ve added some to some clear nail polish that I have. And my daughter plans to use some in the homemade lotions that she makes. Time will tell how well it works, but it seems like a decent value, considering how concentrated it is. ... show more

It is still fine before opening, since it has not been exposed to air or handling, but you should store the sealed bottle somewhere cool and out of direct light so the solution stays stable. Once opened, the lack of preservatives and the clear bottle start to matter, because the liquid has no protection against contamination or light exposure. STORAGE & SHELF-LIFE AFTER OPENING Once you have broken the seal on the bottle, the shelf-life depends on how you store it. In the refrigerator, you can reasonably treat it as usable for up to about 6 months if you handle it cleanly and do not contaminate the opening. In a consistently cool, dark room cabinet (not in the bathroom, not near heat), a more conservative window is around 3 months. If it you keep it at room temperature without reliably cool, dark storage, you should plan on more like 4–6 weeks, because the unpreserved water phase is more likely to support microbial growth. SIGNS IT IS TIME TO TOSS THE BOTTLE In all cases, you should stop using it at the first sign that it is breaking down. If the liquid turns cloudy, thickens or goes stringy, shifts color, or develops any new or off odor, that is your signal to discard the bottle rather than keep trying to use it. DETERMINING WHETHER YOUR DIY PRODUCTS NEED ADDITIONAL PRESERVATIVES If you are adding this panthenol solution to a product that already contains a preservative, you do not need to add an additional one as long as you keep the amount low enough that you are not diluting the existing system. Staying at 5% or less is generally considered safe for maintaining the effectiveness of the original preservative. Anything you make that contains water but does not already have a preservative will need one, because this ingredient does not provide any microbial protection on its own. FINAL THOUGHTS Overall, this is a good product, you just need to take precautions to avoid air, light and outside contaminants after opening it. This is a small bottle, so if you are a busy bee, you are likely to use it up long before the product begins to degrade. Nice quality. Works great for moisturization and anti-aging. As with all D-Panthenol products I've used, it does have somewhat of a thick sticky property to it. But I find that helps trap moisture and renew skin's fullness. After it sets for a while, the sticky feeling does go away, but it works well and is worth the sticky feeling in my book. ... show more

I bought this on a whim because my skin was feeling dry and irritated, and I’m pleasantly surprised. The serum is lightweight, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t leave behind a greasy or sticky feeling. After using it consistently for about a week, my skin felt noticeably softer and more hydrated, and some of the redness I was dealing with started to calm down. I’d say it’s effective. A little goes a long way, so the small bottle lasts longer than I expected. It layers well under moisturizer and makeup without pilling. If you’re looking for a simple serum to help support your skin barrier and add hydration, this is definitely worth trying. I use this D-Panthenol liquid for simple DIY hair and skincare mixes, and a little really does go a long way. I like that it’s a 75% concentrate because I can add just a small amount to a hair serum, scalp blend, or moisturizer instead of needing a lot of product.
