  • Not perfect, but close to it.
For the price, nice budget scope. The glass is clear. Everything feels solid and works. I would have given 5 stars, except for the illumination dial is so hard to turn. With my arthritis, I could barely turn the dial, to turn it on/off or adjust the brightness settings. So far holds zero and makes a day target shooting fun. ... show more

  • Great beginner or ultra budget scope for 22lr and under
I did not expect much for this to be so incredibly inexpensive. Appearance wise it looks quite nice other than the bonus scope rings that look rather anemic. But the outward appearance of this scope looks really good and it has surpassed my expectations in function. I have put this on a 22LR and am very satisfied with the results but am looking for better scope rings. Obviously the clarity of the glass is not going to be anywhere as good as a scope costing hundreds or thousands of dollars, but for the money, it isn't all that bad either. It works great in good light. For regular use in darker lighting you will probably want to spend a whole lot more money. If I was buying a scope to teach a young shooter how to shoot, it would probably be this. Any scope can get damaged with abuse so you really don't want it to be an expensive one if someone is still learning how to be cautious and take good care of things. Maybe tell them if they take good enough care of it you'll eventually buy them a nicer one. I'm still questioning if the illuminated reticle is necessary or even beneficial but it's a neat feature. Things to consider: How big is the eye box? Pretty darn tiny at max magnification. The eye box refers to how much your eye can deviate from its ideal positioning behind the scope before the image is no longer centered or the image quality becomes greatly deteriorated. However, even extremely expensive scopes can have a tiny sight box if they have a lot of magnification. The eye box of this is similar to an eyebox of an expensive scope that has a much higher zoom level. So in that regard, even though you can find a 9x scope with a much bigger eye box, this is still acceptable and could actually be good practice on before graduating to bigger, better, more expensive scopes. How much recoil can it withstand before catastrophic failure? That's kind of a loaded question. Although I can't speak from first hand experience, I suspected that a lot could be learned by researching hundreds of reviews of what appear to be this identical scope with various other brands. With that assumption I've scanned over these reviews, including a few Youtube reviews, in search of an answer. Even then, the answer is pretty allusive since there is a lot of factors not mentioned. Like how heavy is their rifle? How hot of a load? Is there a muzzle brake? The vast majority of people who wisely limited use of these to 22LR have no reported failures that I've found. There are a few people who have stated they have used these with 223 for hundreds of rounds with no issue. There are others who have stated that 223 or especially 556 might be pushing the limits too far and have experienced reticle failures with these calibers after a short time. Another person claims they have used it with 308 without issue but it's unclear how many rounds they put through it or how much kick their particular rifle has (weight? Muzzle brake? Light loads?). And that's just the thing. Realistically it may also come down to what day of the week it was built whether it withstands hundreds of rounds of 223 for you, or just 10's of rounds before a reticle failure. The question of holding zero becomes an even more difficult question. Some reported issues of holding zero until they upgraded to better scope rings. I can tell you first hand that failing to hold zero is often user error. Maybe the installation wasn't done well to begin with. Maybe a reviewer is not a consistent shot or didn't take into account changes in wind. Maybe they changed ammo or their ammo is just inconsistent. Maybe they expect too much from the accuracy of their rifle. In my opinion the cost of ammo is also a huge factor. Last thing I want to do is waste tens or hundreds of dollars in ammo trying to push the limits of an inexpensive scope that may or may not stay zeroed. 22LR ammo on the other hand is super cheap and unlikely to damage this scope so this is the only good option in my opinion. And anything less than that, why would you even need a sight with magnification? Outside of maybe high performance air rifles but I have very little knowledge of that. ... show more
