Description

Replaces the GFCB220 with new Self Test functionality. UL performed a study that found there were devices in the field that had gone "brain dead" and could no longer protect against electrical shock and leakage current, but were still functional. As a result of the study, UL required that all new GFCI devices perform a routine self-test of their capability to detect and prevent ground faults. The device must disable itself if the self-test is failed. The self-test software runs in the background-it will be invisible to the user when the self-test program is running. All Eaton devices will maintain their TEST buttons to manually test the device. Pressing a breaker's TEST button will yield the expected result: the breaker will trip if it is functioning properly. GFCIs are required in any application near water such as kitchen countertops, bathrooms, swimming pools, hot tubs, and outdoor receptacles. They immediately break the circuit when electrical current leakage is being detected, reducing the risk of shock and electrocution.

The local electrical supply and Home Depot had been out of this item for many months. Bummer! Recently, a shipment of these BR 20 amp double pole, GFCI breakers made by Eaton arrived. Amazon's price was slightly more than 1/2 off the quote from the local Electrical Distributor and was delivered in two days! Although the packing wasn't perfect, all in all a five out of five. Lasting less than 2 months in a Bryant BR panel, the breaker surface felt increasingly hot to the touch until one day it tripped. No equipment was attached. I reset and pressed the test button and a loud arc flash with blue sparks happened while it tripped again. On resetting it to ON, a bigger arc flash occurred and tripped my 100 amp subpanel breaker. The attached picture shows the entire GFCI circuitry burnt black. Effectively, inside it appears to be shorting one or both of the poles to neutral or shorting the two poles together. I've put in an older BR breaker, which works fine, while I pursue warranty with Eaton. ... show more

Since this oven uses steam / water, I felt better installing it with a GFI circuit breaker. The outlet is a NEMA 6-20R, which has no neutral, only two hots and a ground. The breaker and circuit works fine.
