The Richardson 256 are awesome rope hats! I have a larger head(7 3/8 to 7 1/2). And I can fit it with 3 snaps. The material is super lightweight, and there is a small buckram mesh that sets behind the front of the crown. That said, this is not a structured hat. I’m not saying that negatively. I’m just letting you know. The images can be a bit misleading. lol NOTE: if you are trying to use these to draw/paint art onto, just know: being unstructured and thin/light material it can be tough to get fine line work. I ended up adding a layer of heavyweight interfacing behind the front panel(in between the panel and the buckram mesh. You can see the white hat has the interface added while the salmon and cardinal hats do not), and it is perfect to still give you that soft hat feel while having a good canvas to work with. I haven’t worked with any patching/vinyl, etc… so I can’t attest to that, but it is iron-able if you need to iron on anything. ... show more

This might be me new favorite hat, it fits my head perfectly and above my ears exactly the way I like. Not too high on the head but not pressing down on my ears where they meet my head causing pain after just a short time of wear. My only issue is that the hat arrived pretty crunched because it was shipped in just a standard plastic amazon bag with a thin plastic piece inside the hat to help it hold it's shape. The plastic inside the packaging is ok but hats should always be shipped in a box, in my opinion. Aside from the shipping, I LOVE this hat and didn't send it back in case the potential replacement inevitably doesn't fit with the same exactness. Additionally, this hat will fit those who have slightly larger noggins (especially with how much hair I have), my head is a 7 1/4 (with a neat haircut) in a fitted cap and I'm on the 4th notch of this hat with my hair in all its curly fullness. If I were to cut my hair, I'd probably be able to tighten it up one maybe two notches. ... show more

fit was true to size, didn’t have to bend the bill to fit on my head, which i enjoyed. i got the hat engraved for my hunting club & the fibers of the hat were durable and didn’t split.

I was expecting something a little bit different. I ordered the birch and black, and it almost looks like butter yellow. Material is very thin.. The fit is cute for kids or someone with a small head.. probably wouldn’t purchase this style again.
