It is sturdy. Vertically - it hardly has any movement. Looks like it will hold a good amount of weight for a drink. Horizontally - it pivots some. The slot for a cup/mug handle could be a little wider. There are grooves in 3 directions on the holder that fit into the vice to give you options for which way you want a cup/mug handle to point. Overall it seems like a good buy.
