I've been on the search for the perfect shoe for years now. Living in poverty makes that harder to afford to do than for many others. It is also hard to judge a shoe without wearing it a couple times and by that point it isn't returnable. I'm disabled from driving and walk almost everywhere I need to go to survive independently on my own. So having a good walking shoe is a must. I've gained a lot of weight so getting back into walking for exercise and not just survival has made it a struggle to find a good comfortable shoe. I'm 5'8.5" and 296 lbs. I'm carrying around a lot. My feet measure 10.5" and the width is 4W, extra wide, whatever it measures like 4 1/8". I can typically find a comfortable shoe in length but my issue is the width part. Often so many shoes that are really comfortable for walking don't last long with me because they make the bottom sole smaller than the actual shoe. Like New Balance does. So after about a month of wearing and waking around the outside part of the shoe collapses down over the sole and I begin tripping on my own feet because it makes me walk on the outside of my feet. Yet that isn't how I walk when barefoot. So I've been searching for a good minimalist sole that also has good enough tread to last and also have good grip to not slide all over if walking on surfaces not ideal BUT also is wide width. Having them look nice and be in my office of affordability is a must too. I've bought New Balance, Fittville, Vionic, Sketchers, Saucony, this minimalist military boot that had Vibram soles, and Vibram 5 fingers in this search. All of them either sucked horribly or just barely didn't suck horribly and see barely passible. But these Altra shoes are just simply amazing. I live the iceberg blue color, though they do get dirty easy, but I'll take that. The sole is wide enough. Both inside and on the bottom. I don't even need to wear additional insoles for comfort. Being as overweight as I am I have minimal foot pain after walks now. They lace up nicely and I like the high top design for giving me extra stability. I don't see the outside of my foot slowly going over the side of the bottom sole like other shoes yet the bottom sole isn't thick and clunky like other shoes that provided support to not do that. Like Fittville shoes didn't make my foot fall over the sides, but the bottom sole is thick and makes me feel like I'm stomping around like Frankenstein's monster. My only dislike is I think they are a little too big. I'm going to buy another pair and size down a half size and see how that fits. So I normally wear 10.5 in women's and will try 10 next purchase. I'll update my review when I find out which size fits better. Not sure if 10 will be too small and what I feel is too big is actually what my other shoes should have been all along for comfort. Mostly the being bigger is an aesthetic issue, not comfort. It just looks a little floppy in the toe box area and I think it'll look better a bit smaller. But could be wrong. At the value on these I can afford to buy multiple pairs at once anyway. I intend to buy the beige color as well. Wish they'd make other colors too. Like muted pastel colors like the iceberg blue color. I'd buy them all up.

This has great cushion and support. I’ve walked/ hiked in these for about 50 miles over the last month or so. I haven’t had any blisters or sore spots . The toe box is awesome! I sized up a half size or so and wish I had just ordered my regular size . I wanted room for thick socks, but there is already plenty of room. They are not waterproof , but I wasn’t expecting or wanting them to be. Very happy!

For years I was annoyed about how every pair of sneakers/tennis shoes would press down on my high arches and squish my toes. These allow for a more natural toe spread and feel really comfortable. I love these as a more high-top option, as they also help me feel more stable at the ankle. I plan to take these with me on trip where i'll be walking at least 3-5 miles on different types of terrain, but am just as comfortable wearing them around casually.

Pros: -wide toe box -cute -seemingly well made Con: -extremely squishy. So heavily cushioned that it actually seems to throw my stability off. I understand having some cushion for rough terrain hiking (unlike my very thin wide toe box sneakers for every day), but this is more than any shoe and too much.

Absolutely the best hiking shoes I have ever owned for my damaged feet. I have three Altra shoes, one foe every occasion. I bought these for hot weather, they are breathable but they do not look like they are made for rain, which is what I wantes. I have another altra pair that are all weather.

I typically can't find shoes that fit my wide feet and narrow heal. I ordered medium width in womans and they fit me perfectly. Most comfortable shoes I've ever owned! My husband, who has a medium width foot, ordered the same shoe in mens and his are also perfect for him.
