This was a huge amount of work for my husband to assemble, but he did comment that the instructions included were really thorough and excellent compared to most assembly instructions. He had a few criticisms about the piece; the fact that it’s a veneer over chipboard, and that the feet were hard to place without the edging (which is supposed to be tucked under the bottom) were somewhat exposed. But he did love how the cabinet doors went in with ease and hang perfectly straight. My criticism is only that it seems they had room to make much larger drawers and that they don’t open fully. I do absolutely love the overall looks of this piece of furniture. We left the paper towel holder off, which also didn’t look like it could keep paper towels in because the rod was so short, but we didn’t need it anyway. Instead, we mounted the shelf/towel holder on the other side. They aren’t really interchangeable unless you just want to mount the shelf. He’d have had to drill holes if we’d wanted the paper towel holder on the opposite side, so that could be a real negative for someone who would like to do that. The holes on the other side are fairly well hidden for us because they’re facing a kitchen cabinet. It would be nice if they’d provided matching pegs to cover the holes if you don’t want to use these attachments. But for our purposes, the cabinet is wonderful, and the granite top was perfect, heavy duty and gorgeous. It matches quite well with our black countertops and appliances. And even though it’s pressboard with a veneer, it truly looks like solid wood. I love this cabinet! ... show more

    • Took a Chance - Pleasantly Surprised!
I was very impressed with the quality of this island. It took almost 3 hours to put it together...time consuming, but not too difficult. There are a lot of pieces, but all the wood pieces were well marked and all the hardware was organized and numbered to coincide with the instructions in the manual. They even included some extra screws, cams locks and spring pins in case something was missing. The instructions were fairly easy to follow, although it did take two of us to complete the job. The granite top came in a wood crate that was screwed together to keep it intact. It was inside of a box, wrapped in plastic and cushioned with Styrofoam. The wood and the granite are beautiful and we are very pleased with the finished product. In my opinion, the island is very consistent with the advertised photo. I also liked having the option of putting on the casters OR the round wooden base support pieces (we chose the latter). We have the island against a wall in our kitchen and use it as a microwave stand and extra storage cabinet. It works perfectly. I was worried about spending hundreds of dollars and taking a chance on a product that you have to put together piece by piece, but for us it turned out okay. We were pleasantly surprised with the results. If you are willing to spend a little time to put it together, I would highly recommend this product. ... show more

    • Just what I needed
I needed a kitchen island of a specific size with a high quality countertop, some storage space underneath, that looked like a nice piece of furniture, at a price that fit my budget. This fit the bill. Sure it's not solid mahogany or cherry, and yeah the doors and drawers aren't heavy, but honestly, the fit and finish is pretty tight. It's not wobbly, the drawers & doors operate smoothly, and the granite top is rather nice. And most importantly, the piece is very attractive. The cabinet space is not huge, but they provide dimensions here...you know what you're getting. As for assembly, I'll say with complete confidence that the reviewer complaining about the size and function of the screws, either he/she was doing something wrong, or the company has since corrected what parts they provide. Assembly took a whole evening, but if you lay out your pieces before you begin, and follow the directions as they are, it's not really in any way challenging. There are a lot of parts, and I found it to be a 2-person job. 1 person to do the assembly, and 1 person to kind of play nurse...locate the requested parts as they come up in the directions, and hold up pieces while the other person is tightening screws. But again, it's not hard. Just time-consuming. I'm satisfied with my purchase! ... show more

    • Much needed workspace

Shortly after my husband and I purchased our house we realized, that although large, our kitchen was not set up well. I had almost no usable counter space, and that which we did have was really far away from the stove. I scoured the internet for something that would make cooking easier, but wouldn't destroy my bank account. I found this on another website for about 80.00 more, and decided to check Amazon just in case. Glad I did. Although it isn't huge, it gives me enough space to do most of my prep. I sometimes branch out to other counters if it's a particularly involved meal, but for the most part it works for me. I started keeping my most often used utensils, i.e. measuring spoons, peeler, dry measure cups etc in one drawer, and recipes in the other for quick reference. The cabinets provide ample storage space, again something we severely lacked, for all of my mixing bowls as well as my crockpot, cutting sheets a couple of cook books and my liquid measure cups (I have 4- all the way up to 4 cups). The black finish looks very sharp, and the design is a decently contemporary one. the only thing that I noticed that may detract from it, and I don't know if this is true of all stainless steel, that the occasional rust mark appears. I think it has to do with the salt I keep in the spice rack, (Side note on the spice rack, it's not terribly large, but it stores my most often used spices so I am cool with that) my husband knocks it over and it ends up on the top and I don't notice it until I go to cook and by then the mark is there. It does come off though. I would recommend this product to anyone who doesn't have a lot of work area or a whole lot of space in general. It was a perfect fit. ... show more
