  • Adjustments are needed.
As with any lathe this is not 100% ready out of the crate. You will need to deburr the edges, sand down the rough casting where all the dials go and tram it all in. The tailstock had to be filed to allow me to properly align it. The original tool post was for 1/2 tooling so I ended up with an oxa quick change post. Would recommend using the AXA so tooling it not run up as high and more towards the middle of its adjustment. The model is MX-600A if anyone wants to look more into it before buying. Delivery attempts were made but the shipping company did not have my phone number. Once you order please contact the seller to make sure they have your phone number and not the default amazon number. I was almost charged storage from the delivery company due to missing them so many days. ... show more

  • Good value for the $$
I'm a newbie to metal lathes and looked at different models for about 4 months before purchasing this one. My understanding is that these lathes all come out of the same factory, so I read reviews and watched YouTube videos to compare some of the companies that sold them. I noted a few unsatisfactory comments about Vevor customer service, so I decided not to buy this from them. To be fair, I have some Vevor tools and they work just fine, but Creworks appeared to get better CS reviews and their Amazon Prime price for this went so low I couldn't pass it up. Reviews of most mini lathes indicate that extensive cleaning and adjustment would be required and this was no exception. However, there was no cosmoline to scrub off, just manufacturing grit and oil, so I spent about three evenings cleaning, shimming and adjusting. No parts were missing and there was no corrosion, except for the half-nut on the leadscrew. It was so badly corroded that it didn't mesh with the screw. I contacted Creworks and they were very responsive in sending me a well machined replacement. In fact, I'd also contacted them previous to delivery with special instructions and they very quickly followed up with me, so I was impressed by that. I don't have the lathe mounted yet, but tested it on some bronze and steel using a carbide cutter. For still being mounted to the bottom of the packing crate, there wasn't any vibration and I was happy with the results. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with this purchase and wouldn't hesitate to buy from Creworks again. ... show more

  • Tweaking needed
Overall has been a good lathe. Needed some minor tweaking out of the box, so far nothing major. Had to replace the 4 jaw chuck- the jaws, no matter how hard I tightened them down, had a small amount of movement leading to the piece not spinning smoothly. The compound slide also needed some adjustment, and I'm still playing with it. That being said, it has so far worked well. It is much quieter than my previous lathes, accelerates quickly and smoothly, and has good power. ... show more

  • Value is good (ish)
Unfortunately, this machine lives up to the stigma of a "Cheap China Import Lathe". That is not necessarily all bad though. You just have to expect a lousy paint finish, missing small parts, and no instructions. But the actual mechanics of the lathe machine are there, you just have to refine the fit and finish for YOUR requirements. My intended use is a tool for unique situations where a lathe is a practical tool to complete a task. This is not a precision machine by any means. It is a good machine to carry out making a part on a lathe when only a lathe will get it done. I like having it in my shop/garage and the price I paid was fair for what I expected to get. The machine arrived on time and was well packaged. ... show more

  • Seems pretty good but came with broken gear teeth
So far this lathe seems pretty good and should do the job for me. It came with broken teeth on a pair of the main drive gears. Replacements were of course not readily available. Customer service was responsive and did expedite the shipping once gears were obtained. The gears are 24t and 100t, so not available in the sets that are around. I have not yet attempted any major projects, but the small cutting and drilling projects have gone well. And the customer service team was available, and seemed to do a good job, even though I did not enjoy waiting for parts. The wait was about 4 weeks, which isn't bad considering shipping from China ... show more
