This is a review of the Crescent CSWS13 1/4-Inch and 3/8-Inch Socket Wrench set. I had a vintage SK 3/8 drive socket set that was a gift from my father. Unfortunately, it disappeared in a move and I was forced to find a replacement for it. SK no longer makes the set so I searched for other brands. There were several sets here that sold for less than half the price of the CSWS13, but many of their reviews contained phrases like "okay for the price". I wasn't looking for 'OK', I was looking for something that had decent quality and a case that wasn't a joke. I found it in the CSWS13. These tools are simply beautiful and reek of quality. The case holds the sockets securely and makes it easy to keep them organized. The only thing it is missing is a handle. It's a great set of tools. My advice to people looking for a 3/8 socket set is to spend a little more and get tools that will last. You will quickly forget about the extra money you spent but always appreciate the quality. ... show more

This set came exactly like the quality I expect from Crescent. The sockets fit tight. I had a frozen bolt and had to use a pipe to extend the ratchet. It finally came loose, but I know I put more torque on it than a 1/4 socket is designed to take, but the tool performed beautifully. Nice sized handle for a 1/4 in set....not too small. Came in a nice blowmold case, which can be hung or stacked with other cases. Good price. Great tools. Recommend! The only fault, if any, was that it didn't have that uncommon and pesky 5.5 mm size socket. I'll survive ... show more

Based on other reviews, I bought these. And I'm not sorry I did. These are quality tools and the set has no filler. Many companies will throw in a lot of doodads to increase the piece count for a socket set. I don't care about getting allen wrenches or spanners in a socket set. I care about sockets and a ratchet drive and an extender or two. This is the perfect no-nonsense set. It is a 3/8" drive (only), no messing around with different drive sizes or converters. It has a couple of extensions and one swivel. SAE and metric sockets in shallow 12-point and deep 6-point. And whoever designed this case deserves an award. The sockets, which are easy enough to read, each go in a column according to the size, which is also marked on the case in raised numbers. So the shallow one is right below the deep one in every case (except the 7mm, which has no deep version). ... show more

After buying small sockets sets here and there, and there's always one missing I needed to get something to replace all my socket sets. This set is by far the best set I've ever owned. The tools stay neatly in place and don't come falling out when you open the case. The ratchet feels great in your hands and seem to provide more then enough torque for smaller jobs.     • Ratchet Failed After A Single Use

This felt like a quality set when I received it. However, the ratchet failed after removing a single bolt. The bolt wasn't even difficult to remove. I used it to break loose my oil drain pan bolt. After that, the ratchet mechanism seized and the reverse lever won't move. Since I ordered online, my only recourse would be to mail it in somewhere and wait who knows how long for a replacement. Instead, I'm going to return the entire set. I can't trust it if it fails after a single use. Additionally, the picture on Amazon doesn't match what I received. The picture shows all of the sockets stored on one side of the case. The set I received has sockets on the top and bottom lids, which makes it a little more difficult to keep things where they belong. From my experience, they probably started cutting corners on quality when they started making changes. The ratchet I received looks different than the one in the picture, which apparently means "lower quality". ... show more
