  • Pulling nails? BUY IT! It's an amazing tool
Style: 11"
I have a LOT of tools. If I need a tool for a project I do some research and buy it. I hadn't used one of these before but it looked like a good design, and I own quite a few Crescent tools. All I can say is this is the best tool over for pulling nails. I've used it for demo work, remodeling, tearing apart pallets for disposal, and it just keeps working and working. It's very quick to use and I haven't met a nail yet I couldn't pull with this thing. If you're going to be pulling nails for a project do yourself a favor and just buy it! Wish I'd found it a few decades earlier. ... show more

  • Well designed and effective tool
Style: New Style
It takes a little time to learn how to use it, and I’m not a natural when it comes to using carpentry tools. I’m a 73 year old retiree who likes to tinker and do as much as I can to maintain our home. I’m using this tool to pull nails from 2X4s in my 30 year old deck. Every summer I replace some 2X4s that aren’t wearing well and this year I’m replacing 13 that are on average about 10 feet long. That’s a lot of nails. What do I like about the tool? It’s self contained. I don’t need to use it with anything. It grips the nail head, provides leverage to make the extraction possible, and is very heavy duty. It is so well designed and I love the feeling that it’s been in use, probably not very different from what I bought, since the 19th century. And it’s priced right. Thanks to YouTube I can watch it in action and since I’m removing approximately 250 nails, getting to learn how to use it in about an hour is a definite plus. I had never heard of a slide hammer before, and now I’m an advocate. In 2 days I’m nearly done with the job and I’m looking forward to next summer when I get to do it again! ... show more

  • Fantastic for pulling out finishing nails---through the FRONT SIDE!
Style: 11"
I bought a new stereo system, and set it up in my LR. It is wall-to-wall carpeting, with cove molding baseboard around it. It was too tight to try to pry the carpet away from under the baseboard to jam the speaker wire under it, , and that could have ruined and scrached the baseboard with whatever mini-pry tool I used. After removing the 4 10-ft pieces, I planned to re-use them, but at 1/8 inch higher, as a channel for the speaker wire. I knew I could slowly pry the baseboard away from the wall by jamming a very flat chisel or knife between it and the wall, slowly twisting/prying it all along, a few inches at a time. The problem was how to the get the 2 1/2 inch bent finishing nails out, without scuffing and scratching the smooth face of the baseboard by using a small pry bar etc., with tape or fabric against the front of it so it wouldn't scratch. Well, I found this modified pliers tool, where one uses the pliers to hold the bent nail near the bottom that is sticking out the BACK of the baseboard, and then push it downward, using the "roll bar" , built into the pliers. One tight, slow push down on the pliers, while squeezing the nail, and VOILA! the intact bent nail came through the INSIDE face of the baseboard! So, no worries about scratching the baseboard, and by probing the area, it was easy to find the exact hole that was already there. That hole may not exactly match up with the one in the sheetrock, but that should not be a big problem. A couple of tips: ---This will only work with finishing nails, or brads. ---The new nail you'll use often fits into that hole without being loose. If it is a little loose, just go up to the next thickness. That will keep it tight, and not be such a difference it might cause a hairline, or larger, crack. ---Before clamping the pliers on the bent nail, bend the nail a little in the same direction the pliers will be pulling it out, just push with a finger if its a longish nail, or tap it with a hammer if it's a short nail .This makes it a lot easier to keep the ppliers tight as you squeeze it, and then pull the nail out. ---The pictures on Amazon help, but there is a short youtube video not on Amazon, under "Apex Tool Group" "Crescent Nail Puller Video". Enjoy! ... show more

  • No-nonsense nail puller
Style: Classic
This old-fashioned tool simplifies removing nails that have heads flush or even below the surface of a board. I've used it to remove T-111 siding from a building that we're renovating. I can pull a dozen nails with this tool before others can pull one while using a hammer and nail-puller pry bar. I wish the grips were rubber coated, and the angle of the pry bar jaw slightly different (to ease getting under nail heads), but the tool is an improvement over what I was having to use before. ... show more

  • Fantastic for disassembling pallets
Style: 11"
This thing works so well I don't even bother with the hammer claw or prybar anymore. Great for taking pallets apart where half the time the nail heads break off when you try to pull them with a crowbar or hammer. Between this, the pallet buster, and the pneumatic nail remover gun, pallets have become so much easier. ... show more

  • Solid tool for the arsenal.
Style: New Style
It is a little different. Need to make sure that you let the tool do the work and do not drive it into the nail with the jaws closed. It will take a nibble of wood to get to the head of a set nail. I have found that it pulls both nails and staples out straight. You really can re-use the nails - they really pull straight if you do it right. Weak , corroded nails will cut through without chipping the edge of the jaws. Photos of chipped jaws in the other reviews? No idea how that could happen with correct use. It is one of several tools to use, not necessarily for every nail that one may encounter in the world. ... show more
