    • A Nice Router With Some Drawbacks
I have owned corded Porter-Cable routers for 30+ years that will likely keep going for another 30 years. I was hesitant to even consider buying a battery-powered router given the high speed and torque required for smooth cuts. But, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the Craftsman. I have about a dozen Craftsman V-20 tools and my experience with them has been very positive. They're all well built, thoughtfully designed and function nicely. This router is compact, powerful and it's a joy to use. I was relieved to find that it provides sufficient torque to perform nice edging without bogging down or causing me to feel my work is compromised in any way. It is comfortable to hold and use, height adjustment is precise and removing the router from the base for a bit change is a breeze. Knowing that not everything is perfect, I have to say I found the dust collection mechanism/eye shield to be very finicky. It is challenging to install and I don't imagine the small plastic dowel that anchors one side of the shield will last very long before breaking off. Even though the shield is clear plastic, I found it very difficult to obtain a sufficiently clear view of the router bit to gauge its position with respect to the workpiece. The plastic distorts the user's view of the bit to such an extent, I ended up removing the shield to make my cuts, thus eliminating the benefit of dust collection. Although I found the dust collection mechanism/eye shield to be a disappointment, I remain pleased with the tool and look forward to using it in my shop. ... show more

Great quality and Iā€™m partial to Craftsman tools. Great price and not loud at all. Able to use different size bits easily. We have used on several remodel house projects. Nice size and easy to store on a workbench.

This is the only cordless router I've used, but I was impressed with its power. I used a 5/8" straight bit to cut through 3/4" oak and the tool held its speed very well. In fact, I never felt the need to use a speed higher than the lowest. I bought an adapter to use my Black & Decker 20V batteries with this since B&D doesn't make a cordless router (even though I'm pretty sure this is made by Stanley B&D). I'm sure the manufacturer would frown on that, but it has been working well for me. Runtime with a "4 amp hour" (it's a junky Chinese battery, so it's probably more like 2.5 amp hours) was impressive, though again, I don't have any other cordless routers with which to compare it. If I had notes for improvement, I'd put at least one more LED to light the work area. It was difficult to see behind the chuck. ... show more

After 45 years "working for the man", I recently retired and have been using my free time to learn more about woodworking. This Christmas, I am working on this gift for a brother to hold his drinks and cell phones out by the corn hole boards and horse shoe pits, and it seemed I needed a router. So I picked up this Craftsman because the price was right for a novice old guy like me. And I inherited a lot of Craftsman tools from Dad that seem to really hold up well. Still learning to use it (and understand now the advantage of a PLUNGE router - which this is NOT) but pretty quickly figured out how to use it with some templates, flush trim router bits, and a roundover bit to make the lid.
