    • Flexible with a strong magnetic end...
Picked this up out of desperation as I had dropped a bolt into the galley between the block and intake manifold of a Ford 4.6 Modular engine in my '94 Thunderbird LX. If you are not familiar with these engines, it's a very hard to reach spot as the manifold sits several inches above the block. You are also blind as there is no visibility in that space. While I could feel the bolt with what I had to use, I couldn't get it. When this wand came in, it snaked into the space, I heard a click then pulled the bolt out of "The Black Hole". Possible downsides.... The magnet strength can make it tricky to handle in tight areas surrounded by steel. The magnet and shaft size are not good for tight openings, due to their diameter and length. Anything less than 1/2" or so, with some clearance and you will probably not be able to utilize this tool. Like most tools, this one works great depending on the application you need to use it on. With the magnet strength and flexibility, it should be excellent at finding/picking up, nuts/bolts/washers that hit the shop floor and disappeared. No complaints on this purchase. ... show more

I don't have a lot of experience with this, but I'm confident that it'll serve me well for DIY auto work. I tested with a spark plug socket, and this can easily lift that. The flexible part holds in place, so it won't be changing its shape due to gravity as the magnet is put into position.

a craftsman automotive magnet, it will lift a 1/2" drive axle socket. It will be very useful in the shop.

This flex magnetic pickup tool seems well-made, and the flexible shaft appears to be durable. The diameter of the sleeve that secures the magnet, is small enough to fit into pretty tight places, and no sharp edges to catch on things. I used it to retrieve a 10mm socket that dropped down into no-man's land , that very small space between the frame and the under-belly skid plates on a JD Gator), while installing a new battery. I tried every trick I know from turning wrenches for 50 years, including 2 other mad pickup tools. They failed to attract and hold the socket. This one locked on, and held it. ... show more
