I’ve been wanting to try glass fusing for a while, but I wasn’t ready to commit to a full kiln. This felt like a much more approachable way to experiment. So far, it’s been pretty fun. I’ve only used it for small glass projects, but it worked properly and I didn’t run into any major issues. People DO need to understand how small these microwave kilns are, though. The interior space is pretty limited, which makes sense because the whole thing has to fit inside a microwave. I also noticed it cools down a lot faster than I thought it would. During my first attempt, I realized pretty quickly you need to move fast once it comes out because it doesn’t retain the heat. The material also seems fragile. It has this chalky ceramic-fiber feel that made me worry about accidentally damaging it if I didn’t baby it. I also wish it included some kind of stand or heat-safe base because it gets EXTREMELY hot. I think this makes the most sense for people who are curious about glass fusing and want to experiment before investing in something more expensive.

I’ve used a couple of microwave kilns before, so I had a decent idea of what I was getting into with this one. For beginners, it’s not a bad option at all. It’s straightforward, doesn’t take up much space, and gets the job done without a big learning curve. So far I’ve only used it for glass, and it heated up just fine. One thing I noticed right away is that it cools down pretty quickly. During my first test, I didn’t pour fast enough and realized it doesn’t hold heat as long as some of the higher‑end kilns I’ve tried. Not a dealbreaker — just something to keep in mind. Once I adjusted and moved faster during the next few runs, everything went smoothly. If you’re just getting into fusing or want something simple for small projects, this works well. It’s a good starter kiln as long as you’re ready to move with a little urgency when it comes out of the microwave. This isa good price point for what you get. It also doesn’t break the bank if you aren’t sure if this a craft you want to get into.

I'm just getting started using a microwave kiln for glass fusing and this one has been working great while I'm in my experimentation phase. You pretty much get everything you need in this kit except a stand to put the hot kiln on to let it cool after you remove it from the oven. These microwave kilns are small (they need to be able to fit in a microwave) with only a 3" x 5" circular interior space with which to put you pieces in that need to be fused.
