Got this just before last Thanksgiving. Has been used as a guest bed twice, mostly used as a sofa. It does not have a typical "hey, I'm a futon!" look, but rather adds a pleasing touch to the guest room. The wood pieces are well-marked. The hardware is wrapped within an inch of its life and clearly identified in the instructions (although telling them apart was occasionally a bit tricky in the drawings.) One clever thing in the packaging is that there are strings attached to the hardware bundles that extend outside the shipping container so it is easy to see whether the bundles have, in fact, been put inside. Assembly was straightforward. We have a lot of experience in DIY furniture, so we only needed a quick glance through the instructions. Although I think the instructions were reasonably clear even for a novice, I could be overestimating that. I would HIGHLY recommend the use of a ratchet tool rather than the wimpy little Allen wrench included for assembly. There are a LOT of bolts to tighten! I expect one person could do it alone, but two people definitely is easier. One slat gave us a bit of attitudet, but it only required loosening other bolts that had been tightened too much to allow the end of the slat to engage properly. We got the version that came with drawers. On one drawer, the bottom piece had a couple of places that had been bumped and so had to be futzed with a bit to compress into the groove, but it was no big deal, and it may have gotten bumped as we were unloading the pieces rather than being already damaged. The first few times getting the futon up and down it was a bit rough, but it soon smoothed out. Because of the size and the thicker mattress we got, it's easier to do with two people, but it can be done with one if they're fairly strong. The drawers slide easily on our medium pile carpet. They are shallow, and really taper off on the ends to fit under the tilt of the frame, but work well for holding the pillows and bedding. (I have two pillows, a mattress pad, a heavy blanket, and a full set of fleece sheets in them at present.) The "storage" in the arms is a shallow cavity big enough to hold all of maybe a couple of remotes. We didn't buy it for the storage - and haven't even told our grands it is there, lest it become a place to lose toys in - but if you are counting on being able to put much of anything in there, you'll be disappointed. My one real issue is that there is no stop for the mattress, so it tends to slide forward when in the sofa position. THis probably won't be so much of an issue once the mattress isn't so new and the bend gets more entranched, but until then, it will be a pain. All in all, tremendously pleased with the purchase and look forward to many years of use. ... show more

Ok, I ordered a queen with drawers in July, and it came in the first week of October. We were advised that they were back ordered, but the delivery date was pushed out. We bought a thicker futon from another source, and a grey velour cover from DCG. I am a 66 year old woman recovering from a bone marrow transplant and assembled it on my own. I used a cordless drill and a rubber mallet. Throw away that little Allen wrench they give you. It is very heavy, and took some mental engineering to enable me to wrangle it, and it took longer than 2 hours. But the parts fit mostly very well, I had to clean up a couple bolt holes with the drill, but that was minor. The bolts themselves are too soft, they will strip very easily if you’re not careful. ( Putting the cover on the futon was like wrestling a bear but that’s not really a flaw ). I’m happy with the end results, the queen size ends up having a high back which is very comfy. It is a cozy look for our family room. So if I can do it so can you. Update: 18 months later I am finding cracks in it. Even though it is inexpensive it shouldn’t be cracking. I searched for a long time on a futon frame and mattress that I felt like would be worth it. I decided to spend the extra money and go with this one. This is an extremely solid and sturdy frame! What happened to us was that over 10 pieces were damaged wood including one of the arms, I was so bummed! However I contacted the seller and sent all the pictures of the damaged wood and they emailed me back and told me that they are sending me a new one! Fingers crossed that this one doesn’t have any damage because I absolutely love this frame! Worth the money! ... show more

I was looking for a futon that looked nicer than the futons that everyone had when they were in college, and this item was perfect. It's well and looks more like a real piece of furniture than any other futon frames I have come across. It has built in storage inside the hand rails and side walls. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star rating is the fact that with the mattress I purchased, the frame has a tendency to want to open up and flatten out. I am sure this is due to the nature of the spring coil mattress I am using (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LQ1RE2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1), but it would be nice if it locked in place when upright. Right now I have it placed against a wall, which prevents it from flattening out when I don't want it to. Side note- I had a couple minor issues with my order, and I received excellent customer service from DCG Stores, the seller I purchased from. I would happily buy from them again. ... show more
