  • They're ok
Color: Matte Black/Blue Mirrored 580p Size: X-Large
These glasses from Costa Del Mar definitely look cool. My first impressions when opening the box were that they have a great appearance to them and I was immediately attracted to them. After picking them up, my impression changed to one that they felt a little inexpensive and cheaply made. Putting them on, they are lightweight and comfortable, and very easy to see through. They fit my face just fine, but I can see someone with a smaller face than mine having issues with them. I do worry about their longevity to scratch resistance over time. Overall, for the price, I would recommend these, but mostly for the name. ... show more

  • Maybe great, but not what I'm looking for
Color: Matte Tortoise/Grey 580p Size: X-Large
This brand is new to me, and the product description and photos at the time of this writing were very bare-bones, so I wasn't sure what to expect from these sunglasses. On one hand, they seem like pretty good sunglasses for outdoor sports. On the other hand, they're really not what I'm looking for from sunglasses, no matter what the activity. Outdoor sports advantages: 1. They wrap around your face, which the product photos don't show at all. That keeps most of the wind and/or salt spray or blowing snow out of your eyes, which is great. 2. The plastic lenses have some distortion where they curve around your eyes, but it only affects peripheral vision. Some people may find this more annoying than others. 3. They're very lightweight and fit my face snugly, so I don't worry they'll fly off if I hit a swell with the sailboat. I'd still wear a safety band on them, though. 4. The hinges flex nicely, so they're comfortable to take on/off. But not what I'm looking for... 1. They feel incredibly flimsy. The plastic is so lightweight, it reminds me of the cheapest of cheap sunglasses. This may be purely perception on my part - maybe it's super-strong material - but there's zero information in the product description or in the packaging about what they're actually made from. It just says, "Built by hand with the best materials." Um, okay. Will they resist heat and UV over time? Will they withstand extreme cold? Will they break if I shove them in my pocket? How scratch-resistant are the lenses? And so on. At this price point ($189 as of this writing), they need to invest in decent marketing copy that actually gives information you need. 2. They're not all that comfortable for me, as the pieces behind the ears curve a little too much for my head. This will vary by person, but for reference, I'm an average-sized woman, 5'4", 135 pounds, with a head sized to match. 3. They have a strong Vintage Terminator vibe, so your friends are likely to expect you to say "hasta la vista" a lot. Your mileage may vary. 4. They're huge. I'm not strong on the my mm measurements, especially for curving sunglasses, so I would have found some images of these on models to be really helpful before choosing them. I thought I liked big sunglasses, but these are bigger than any I've ever worn. This is especially weird, given how tight they feel behind my ears. So these looked from the scant pictures like great sunglasses, and they might be. They're just not great for me, and I'm not confident saying who they might be great for. Fit, materials, and comfort are all concerns. Maybe recommended, with strong reservations. ... show more

  • Good for deep sea fishing
Color: Matte Black/Gold Mirrored 580g Size: X-Large
High quality polarized sunglasses for deep sea fishing. Clean look. Lightweight. Good mirrored polarized lenses. Very large wide eye frames and lenses, which work great to protect my eyes from both direct sunlight and reflective sunlight off the water. I also love that there are holes at the ends of the temples for attaching a lanyard/string to protect from dropping the sunglasses. The only thing I'm not so sure of is the high price of these sunglasses. I own several pairs of Oakleys for fishing and the Oakleys "feel" like $300 sunglasses, whereas if I had to just guess at a fair price for these Costa sunglasses just based on looks and feel, I would have pegged them at $100. ... show more
