This aerator tool is made of very sturdy materials and is straightforward to assemble. Handle piece one bolts on to handle piece two, which in turn is bolted to the plate; individual threaded spikes are inserted and tightened using included nuts. The kit comes with two small wrenches, which might appreciated for those who don't have tools... but I can only assume that would take even longer/be putzier than it already was; using a 10mm wrench and socket gets the job done much quicker and secures spikes tightly. Once assembled the aerator works well; this one did a great job on pretty compacted soil where some of the more open/plug varieties had struggled. It is worth noting that on the bottom plate I had three of the pre-drilled holes that weren't quite complete, so it was difficult to get spikes through; the only way that that was possible was with the socket wrench I used. Eventually the small "extra" that hadn't been cleared broke through... but that resulted in small metal shavings on my closes and the floor, which meant a vacuum as well. Ultimately it was easy enough to clean up, but it's one of those small fit/finish things to be aware of.

These can be handy for doing aeration, But really only in a small area. Larger areas need something a lot bigger and quicker. This is a typical type garden tool that is sent in a box, so it is is in 3 pieces. Not that it may be a bad thing, as you can use it in various ways depending on the extension length you choose. The metal it is made from is fairly thick and robust. You have to assemble all the spikes yourself. So you need to have at least a basic wrench handy. At powered nut driver makes it a LOT easier. BUT they didn't include the bolts to hold the handle together. I had to scrounge around the house to find a few bolts to do the job. Maybe it was just an over site I the one I received. But be aware you may need to find a few bolts. It works fine one it is all set up. Best to use it on a moist soil. I let the sprinkler run for an while and do the aeration a few hours after. All in all it does the job, for small areas.

Dry ground, wet ground, hard ground, soft ground this was able to penetrate no problem. Stab lift, stab twist, lift - knock off the dirt and keep going. Works well, lightweight and has enough space to put your foot on it. Gets a lil loose so be sure to make it nice and tight.

This lawn spike aerator is easy to use. Just place it on the ground where you want to aerate, hold the handles for balance, and step down on it. Takes a fraction of a second and punctures deep into the earth. I have big plans for my lawn this year but am not ready for this step yet, so I only did a small area to see how it worked. I think with a little sweat equity I’ll be able to get my small yard done without needing to invest in heavy equipment or pay someone else to do it.

This comes with all the pieces so you have to attach all the spikes. That is fine and it comes with the tools to get it done. It is nice and sharp so that's nice but man oh man is this time consuming. If you have any sizeable yard just plan on this taking what is going to feel like forever. I would recommend this for small areas and yes it does work really well.
