I had been looking for a pair of Chuxk Taylor Converse sneakers to replace the pair I wore out after over a decade. I received my new pair today, and am so happy:) I read the reviews that started these ran large, so ordered a half size smaller than my usual size. I think if I would have gotten a full size smaller they would have been a little too tight. They fit perfectly:) They arrived neatly boxed and when expected. I saw a person my age (50) wearing a pair of Converse Chuck Taylor's and thought "Man, I wonder if they are as comfortable as they were when I was a kid?" and then I thought that they actually looked pretty good. I had just received an Amazon gift card for $25.00 and didn't know what to spend it on, well now I did. I was going to get myself a pair. So I went to the Amazon website and was ready to order but before I did I read some of the reviews. I'm glad I did! What I kept reading was how they didn't fit true to size, yet a couple reviews stated they did. So I went to a local store and tried on a couple pair. I'm a size 11 and sure enough they were too big. I tried on the 10 and it fit, however it was still tight at around the outside toe area. The store I was in didn't have a 10-1/2 and neither did 2 other surrounding stores. I decided to order a 10-1/2 and decided what's the worst that can happen send them back? Well I got them and as the title of my review states I was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED that the 10-1/2 fit great. I highly recommend trying on a pair before buying them. I bought the low top unbleached and also liked the fact that the laces were the same unbleached color as the sneaker. They look great. I like how they look with shorts and they look really cool with your favorite pair of jeans. Other reviews talk about lack of support and that is true, however the flatness of them are the comfort of them. My compllments to Amazon and Lastpairs for having a size 10-1/2. So go out and get yourself a pair. Treat yourself to some old time comfort and style.

Classic Chuck Taylor converse! I highly recommend ordering a size down from your normal shoe size. I put down fits as expected because these are my go to shoes, and by now I know how they fit. I will break down my 4 star rating on the basis of quality and conformity to my needs. I will start with the positives: these shoes are excellent for weightlifting, particularly squatting and deadlifting. If you are deciding whether to buy these for lifting, get them. They also seem to have zero heel-toe drop, which I think qualifies them as good minimalist shoes. I personally have never had problems with my arches or feet, and I've ran 4 miles on pavement in a broken in pair, and had no problems whatsoever (it was a really great run actually!). I used to run around 1 mile 6 days a week in them, and did not have any injuries until the running plan changed by drastically increasing the pace with no warm-up (sports team). I then sustained an overuse injury in my knee which I foolishly trained through 3 months with. Now for the negatives: In my opinion, these shoes should never cost more than $40. They wear out in about 6-8 months of daily use, particularly in the exterior side where the shoe bends as the ball of your foot pushes off the ground during normal walking. Again, I do wear these shoes every day, and heavy lifting plus biking may be considered much more intense than the average person. Still, a shoe which was originally a basketball shoe ought to hold up a little better. Finally, my biggest concern, the grip. These shoes start of with not-so-good grip, and by the time they are ready to be replaced, you will find yourself slipping on many low friction surfaces (particularly wet floors). Be cautious about this. Honestly, if these shoes had really good grip I could overlook the wear they experience, and give an honest 5 star rating. However, given all the factors, I am willing to give a 4/5 because I am biased (I think they are really a 3.5/5). Hope this helps, and perhaps the manufacturers will see this and implement changes!
