I was so excited to discover these leather chucks. The look is classic but I can wear them on rainy days without worrying that my feet will get soaked! I had a leather pair of low profile chucks 20 years ago that I wore for nearly 12 years before they became unwearable, and I was heartbroken when I realized they no longer made them. These are the next bed thing, and if they are the same quality and durability as the old shoes, I will be wearing these for the next 10 years, too. That breaks down to just $6 a year, which I think is a great value for such an iconic brand. I own so many pairs of Converse because I know their shoes will be comfortable and last me several years. I hope they always stay this dependable!

These are great looking shoes and the leather itself is thick, sturdy, and a perfect alternative to white canvas that gets filthy. These get filthy too, but they are a lot easier to clean. Do beware that these shoes will scratch easier than the canvas variant. Now for the real gripe. The rubber toe box began to separate from the tongue in both shoes in less than a month. More so on one than the other. This caused some odd creases and ‘bubbling’ to occur while walking. I have since “fixed” this issue with rubber like gorilla glue. I have not tried wearing them yet as they are curing but my hopes are high. I am wondering if it has anything to do with the stiffness of the leather so I have ordered a pair of elastic laces to allow some movement for the tongue. Also, if you ever scratch the shoes or mess up the finish, angelus shine and paint are awesome; I have already had to fix a spot that was eaten by gasoline lol. Overall, these are great shoes (with some TLC apparently) if you’re willing to care for them like all leather shoes.

Nike has ruined the quality of my favorite shoes! Why do companies that take over another brand’s business almost always ruin their product? Is it just corporate greed or incompetence? I am SO disappointed in the quality. They absolutely cheaped-out on everything that made Chuck Taylor shoes comfortable and iconic. My pictures show my last pair of leather Chuck Taylor’s (these definitely show wear from years of use because they were so well loved!) and the junk that Nike is replacing them with. There’s no way these will be comfortable or hold up for a few years like the ones I was trying to replace. I am just SO angry at Nike!
