Description

This intermediate level saxophone solo collection is ideal for students, teachers, and advancing performers preparing for contests, auditions, and recitals. Designed for Bb tenor saxophone players at levels three to four, it is widely used in studio teaching, school programs, and individual practice. The book features a carefully curated selection of classical solo literature drawn from the respected Rubank catalog. Each solo is tailored specifically for the tenor saxophone, offering stylistic variety and progressive technical challenges. Standard notation is used throughout, making it accessible for developing readers while still musically engaging. This collection helps build confidence and technique while improving rhythm, articulation, and expressive performance skills. The repertoire encourages consistent practice through recognizable classical works commonly selected for solo and ensemble festivals. Music educators rely on this volume as a trusted music teacher resource for contest preparation and structured learning.Because many selections appear on state solo and ensemble lists, this book supports goal oriented study and performance readiness. It works well for lessons, juries, and recital programming, offering dependable material that grows with the student.Song List Adagio and Allegro from Sonata No. 6 Handel Allegretto Arensky Contradance Mozart First Concertino Guilhaud Gigue from Partita III Bach Menuetto and Presto from Trio V Haydn Novelette Sporck The Old Castle from Pictures at an Exhibition Mussorgsky Piece in G Minor Pierne Prelude and Allegro Ostransky Premiere Etude de Concours Petit Sinfonia Arioso from Cantata No. 156 Bach Two Little Tales Desportes Valse Nouvelle from Album for the Young Tchaikovsky. • Finally, a good solo book for the tenor sax!
Format: Paperback
I was looking for a book which could let me both improve my skills as a tenor saxophone player and build the technique required for classical pieces, since I am not in the jazz field, and this is IT! I know I can rely on any of the songs in here to be of a high enough caliber to be performed at any audition or concert because the songs are composed by some of the best. Hell, even Bach is in here! ... show more

  • More for a beginner than an advanced student, but pretty good
Format: Paperback
This isn't a bad selection of music, but my problem with it is just that rather than including music as difficult as the cover may indicate, or including solos that range in difficulty, everything was *very* easy, so this is more for a student who's just learning to play rather than a more advanced player. ... show more
