This $6.50 304 stainless steel compression spring is a very handy raw material to keep in the workshop for custom 3D printed projects. Measuring 12 inches long with a 6mm outer diameter, it gives you plenty of continuous length to trim down into multiple smaller, custom size springs using wire cutters or dremel cutting wheels. The 304 stainless steel construction provides consistent tension and good fatigue resistance, making it reliable for light mechanical mechanisms, spring loaded latches, or custom printed triggers.     • Excellent, 12" long pair of compression springs in stainless steel for indoor or outdoor projects.
Size: 1mm x 8mm x 305mm Number of Items: 2
This long compression spring may have a specifically intended use, though I am finding it to be a good size for use in an animatronics project. When animating the neck on a character to have motion like that of a typical person, this spring can be placed where the spinal cord might be, so that tilting movement from attached servos will always tend to settle back to a "home" position and make the motion more fluid and less jerky from the servo action. Another use I have looked at is making a type of shock absorber using nested tubes with the spring inside both and capped off at either end. This assembly would only work well in specific conditions where the expansion cannot exceed the length of the shorter nested tube and allow the spring to escape. As long as these springs are, they can also be cut down for use in multiple, smaller projects. The springs are very well-made and finished, with no sharp edges or ends and a beautiful stainless steel sheen. ... show more

These springs ended up being useful in several of my custom builds, including a 3D-printed slingshot and a Nerf-style launcher. Compared to the heavier version, these provide a slightly lighter spring force, making them useful when a softer return is needed. The springs are straight, consistent, and easy to cut to a custom length if necessary. They've performed well throughout repeated testing without losing their shape.
