This worked for my Herman Miller Aeron chair, size "C" (largest size). My chair is pre-2013 so it is considerred the "classic" Aeron chair. Watched lots of online videos on how to replace the gas lift cylinder. I have a large 20" pipe wrench and me, being 6-foot 2-inches and 270lbs, wrestled with getting the top portion of the old lifter stem out from the bottom of the seat. I broke such a sweat after wrestling with that part of the replacement for the 20-minutes it took me. I was only successful in removing the upper stem from the bottom of the seat of the chair after I kept the chair upside down and sprayed WD-40 penitrating oil at the connection point of stem and seat. I let it sit for 5-minutes and then wrenched extremely hard and broke a second sweat. After all that it took less than a minute to remove & replace the gas lift cylinder, remove the wheel brackets and have the entire chair reassembled with the new gas lift working. I wish I would have replaced this gas lifter years ago.

A perfect fit for my beloved Aeron Classic circa 1996. After almost 30 years of dedicated service, my chair would no longer elevate. This new gas cylinder, a trusty pipe wrench, a hammer and some WD-40 to loosen things up, and my Aeron is ready for another 30 years.

It was tough to get the old one out, but the new one fit GREAT! Although there are YouTube videos for doing the removal and installation, it took two men to hold the chair while a third used a pipe wrench to twist the old cylinder out. Note: The cylinder does not have threads, so you may need to twist both dir we actions to get it to loosen. Once loosened it popped right out.

This is not the same diameter as the original (a small bit thinner) and, therefore, sat far too low in the base of my classic Aeron chair. I had some black athletic/medical wrap that I wrapped around the cylinder so it would sit high enough to allow the chair to roll. The hydraulics seem to work well, and I did not need to make any other adjustments. I'm docking two stars as it specifically says it fits the classic Aeron, and it does not (without modifications). I've made it work, but I believe I it should have fit without needing to get creative. Perhaps you will have better luck?
