When replacing an old Honeywell thermostat with a newer, round Nest thermostat, I discovered how many holes and scuff marks were actually behind it. I originally wanted a round plate cover for the wall but those were all a hair too small to completely hide all the wall damage. The official Google plate appears to have a strange concavity to it which I didn't like so I went with this one. This wall plate covered everything perfectly and the charcoal color of the plastic matched well with the charcoal Nest thermostat. It isn't a perfect color match but it is very close and they look good together. I initially felt the plastic was a little flimsy but once you have it installed (which is incredibly easy) it feels firm against the wall. The plastic does show finger prints but once you wipe those off after installation, you likely won't be touching that very often. Overall, good product as it matches the color well and does the job of hiding all the unsightly marks on my wall! ... show more

Nice unit, you definitely will want to buy the filler plate. It's makes for a nice finished job. Only problem I had, if there was a number to call a human that would have made the wiring easier.

I replaced two old Honeywell thermostats with this Nest thermostat. The good news is that Nest technical support is very good and able to assist. The thermostat itself is relatively straightforward to install. The challenge is that it needs to be powered. Many of the older thermostats are not powered. Mine wasn’t and I needed technical support. The good news for me is that the cable that connected the thermostat to the HVAC unit already had a power line which was never connected to the thermostat. So it was easy to take it out of the unused bundle of wires and connect it to the thermostat. You will also need to connect the other side of the wire to your HVAC unit and technical support was very helpful in looking over the wiring of the unit and recommending where to connect it. So very good technical support but not too easy to install if your thermostat is not powered. ... show more
