We are going to get our house painted and I wanted something slightly bigger to hide a little more of the wall behind our 1st Gen Nest Thermostat. This replacement wall plate is slightly bigger (about 5/8" taller and 2" wider) so it covers the very small appearance of the hole in the wall that showed above the top of the old plate. The nest fits in the molded circular indentation in the plate with maybe an 1/8 inch around it. The new plate is 5"x 8". Since it has rounded corners keep in mind it covers more in the center than at the corners. Was easy to install as the Nest just pulls off it's bottom plate, have to remove the attached wires, though take a photo so you know where to reattach the wires later, and then remove the 2 mounting screws. Then put the plate on, line it up with the holes, reattach the wires to the correct ports, then screw the assembly to the wall and reattach the Nest thermostat. ... show more

    • Simple but perfect solution
Long ago when I replaced my old manual AC controls with a Nest I didn't really worry about how the wall looked. But over time the slightly off color area where the larger old unit covered has bugged me more and more. I saw this recently and decided to grab it to see if it would look nicer. Man was that a good choice. It's a simple white and fits the Nest backplate perfectly, but more importantly it covers the old dingy spot on the wall perfectly. ... show more
