  • The essential guide to comic book cleaning and pressing!
This is the essential guide to comic book cleaning and pressing. If you are interested in learning how to clean and press your comic books to improve their appearance for your own enjoyment, or if you are planning to submit your books for third party grading, then you need this book. Michael Sorensen (KaptainMyke) and friends have put together an incredibly useful resource from which you can learn the essential skills of comic book cleaning and pressing. When done correctly, cleaning and pressing comic books is not only allowed, but even endorsed, by third party graders. The techniques presented if used properly will result in the coveted “Blue label”. Why pay someone else to perform this service when you can learn to do it yourself? Before I read this book, I knew that pressing comics involved a heat press, but this is only one part of an entire tool bag of techniques you can learn to improve the appearance of your books. Cleaning and pressing are skills far more involved than what initially imagined: us of steaming, tack iron, humidity tank, dry erasers, cotton swabs, even some basic stain removal techniques with dilute hydrogen peroxide are covered in this book. Most importantly this book provides the heat, time and stacking formulae for the pressing machine that are essential to yield high quality results for every publishing era. Well written with clear instructions, and printed in full color with lots of examples, this book will walk you through step-by-step through each of these techniques. If you follow the instructions carefully you will be amazed by your results. Of course, practice makes perfect and is critical to learn the techniques on dollar bin books first. Now that I am about a year into the process, I am enjoying receiving books I cleaned and pressed return back from third party graders with blue labels in grades as high as 9.8! ... show more

  • The definitive "how to" guide for comic book pressing and cleaning!
I started out early in 2021 cleaning and pressing some of my own books. All of my info came from YouTubers who were "in the know." I learned enough to make a noticeable difference, but wanted to further my knowledge so I purchased a book. Not this book, but a different one. I gathered as much as I could from it, but it wasn't until this year that I found this book. Initially, I thought it was overpriced, but went for it anyways. After having this in my hands for a few months now, I wish this was the first book I ordered. The information is laid out so well, even color-coordinating pages for each section. There are tons of visual references for those who have a hard time comprehending lengthy text. For the amount of knowledge I've gained from this book, I now think it is undervalued. A SINGLE comic clean and press can increase the value of a comic enough that it more than pays for this book. If you're trying to be a pro at this, this is the book to get. You won't regret it! ... show more

  • Its like taking an online class & the author provides feedback!
I’m a long time comic book reader and fan (30 years). It was time to get some of my beloved books professionally graded. I had my books pressed by both experienced (local) and professional pressers. All did a wonderful job and I received successful grades by CGC (comic book grading company). In the past year, the monthly pressing costs started to rise as I submitted more and more books to the pressers. As a DIY enthusiast, it was time to level up my skills and begin pressing my own books. After months of research and Q&A on social media, I purchased the COMIC BOOK CPR. I’m from the old school and enjoy reading material to understand new ideas and concepts (plus I can make notes into my book). As I’m slowly putting them into practice, I’m using the COMIC BOOK CPR as my school reference guide and asking more and more questions on the Facebook page created by the COMIC BOOK CPR. I’m enjoying the process and appreciate the author (Micheal) helping us out and answering our questions. Yes, there’s a lot to read and understand for newbies like me. There’s step by step and new methods to try on your own (don’t be afraid to make mistakes). This already feels like an online class and looking forward to becoming a professional comic book presser someday for me and my comic books. More to come as I continue to learn. ... show more

  • Great info and content
This is a great reference for learning how to clean and press comics. Most of the processes are explained well. My only “gripe” is in the design (only reason I knocked it down a star). Some pages are colored with different colored fonts so it makes it hard to read. For example, red font on a black page is really hard to see and likewise blue font on a greenish or bluish page (maybe just stick to black font and white pages and use colored fonts for headings). But I think some of the content with the colors may have been pulled or created from/for his website (also a great resource). There are diagrams of the recipes for different eras of books with a graphic of the temperature and time for each. I initially wasn’t sure if the temperature and time graphic indicated a range. I did go to his website which had a table that laid out that info much better. Otherwise, this is a great reference as I’m learning how to press comics. Takes a lot of practice and patience which he points out. He has a website and online videos that really help you see what he’s doing, so definitely a plus. ... show more

  • Worth every penny!
This book was my bible for learning how to clean and press comics. Almost 2 years later I'm still referencing it. Such a great guide with easy to follow instructions for multiple types of paper and ink from all eras of comics. Ignore the negative reviews, sadly they are all from people affiliated with the author of a different pressing book. Also a lot of pressers that make money from pressing do not like this information being out there for anyone to learn, it hurts their business. This book is great for beginner and seasoned pressers alike. ... show more
