Very nice shorts, but I ended up returning them because the local Columbia Outlet store had a sale that made them a lot less expensive. The front pockets are nice and deep and the zipper pocket in back feels secure. The fabric will resist water nicely and can even function as a swim suit if need be.

These are the comfortable shorts I own. I own the in several different colors. They look good for a day golfing or can be dressed down for casual use. The pockets are great but I wish it had two rear pockets. I have had a couple pairs of these shorts for years and they hold up great and are very durable. These are comfortable and light weight and great for the beach or fishing if you plan to wade or get wet. They dry quickly and are cool in the heat. This is my second pair because I liked the first pair so much I decided to get another pair. I have a height of about 176cm and waist size of 31 inches and I bought the medium sized 8 inch length. It fits perfectly, and the shorts end about one palm above the knee. There is two side pockets, one zippered pocket in the back and another small side pocket for quick access to smaller items. I wouldn't recommend placing anything too valuable in there, as it is "quick access" and could potentially fall out easily if you were on the move. These shorts dry super quickly. I was cycling in a heavy drizzle, and I could feel the shorts getting rather wet, as it was sticking to my thighs. However, when the drizzle stopped, I continued cycling to my destination, and in about 5 minutes of pedaling, and with the wind drying the shorts, I realized that my shorts were dry when I arrived. Only complaint I have is the inner mesh lining of the shorts are not that comfortable for when I am seated on the bike and pedaling for long periods. It cuts into the groin area and I have to adjust my seating position or the shorts every once in a while, for cycling trips that last over 30 minutes. However these shorts are not biking pants, so that's an unfair judge for it's true comfort level. ... show more

I live in Hawaii and have two favorite shorts now. One is light weight, thin, and not suitable for outdoor work/going out. The other is this Columbia Men's Backcast III water shorts (not the Big version). They have a liner, which I routinely remove before wearing. They are made of a durable, light-weight, reasonably good-looking nylon, and they hold up very well to my yard work, wood working, and trips to Costco, diving, etc. They have a drawstring. After a few years, these lose the elasticity in their waist, so I leave the drawstring in place so that I can continue to wear these for 'dirty' jobs such as painting and wood working. By then, the color is faded, and the elastic shot, but they work well enough for painting, wood working, etc. Love them! (I own 9 pair of these, if you need more convincing to buy them!) ... show more

I have been wearing these shorts since Columbia first introduced them. After years of enjoying them a couple of pair needed to be replaced. I had been ordering direct from Columbia but they sent two pair that were labeled correctly but were way too small. They are the best. And the inner mesh doesn't get in the way of comfort. Just the right length. Perfect for gardening, trips to the grocery store, all day wear, and every day use. I have one or two in several colors.
